    Airlink and guns

Just flew Airlink from Joberg to Harare, and back. Airlink charges $40 USD each way for “special handling” of rifle case. Charge can not be paid at time of ticketing, and so walked over to the Airlink office at both locations, showed my ticket, passport, and gun case, paid the fee, got a printed...

    Would you like a Cigar?

Sitting in Jo’burg airport after a successful elephant/buffalo safari in Zimbabwe. Found a cigar maker in Harare Zim that makes so very tasty cigars. Mosi Oa Tunya. PH gave me a nice sampling and enjoyed totally, in addition to the ones I brought myself.

    Watch Your Booked Flights!

On Delta right now as I type. Nashville, Atlanta, Joberg, Harare. So far so good. Had to change 2-1/2 weeks ago from flying Emirates through Dubai for some reason. Living I guess. I’ll report on Delta One service and baggage handling. Bags on this flight at least.

Just tried the newish Romeo and Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua and it is fine. Their new blends run circles around their old offerings, which I despised.

    Unusual Trophies

Being from the mountains of Tennessee and also familiar with Southern KY, a dried coon pecker was often inserted into the drip line of a moonshine still to direct the alcohol into the jug. Just something to remember as you sip your shine!

    Politics

In casual conversation, I am sure all of us might tend to accentuate the positives of our lives and experiences, and diminish the embarrassing and shameful. However, under oath, all is fair game and I would, and have, answered the questions honestly regardless of the light it sheds. Politicians...

    Would you like a Cigar?

I have elephant bull and two daga boys on quota. Not much plains game where we going. Strictly DG. Taking .416 Rigby and .458 WM. This is my 65 bday present to myself, so lots of cigars, and splurged to have hunt filmed. Wife will definitely know how many stogies I burn on safari.

Great cigar shop near the Convention Ctr, Casa de Montecristo. Within walking distance. They had them when I left last Wednesday for Costa Rica fishing. I’ll be at the show on Friday, then onto Casa for a smoke.

I agree Phil. I tried one at my local cigar lounge and fell in love with it. Promptly bought two boxes there as the online site I use is sold out and they were that good!

    Would you like a Cigar?

You had me at desert! At going on 65, my body no longer tolerates cold. Sweating in a wife beater with a good cigar beats insulated coveralls, beanie, booties and gloves by the heater just to enjoy a few cigars.

    Would you like a Cigar?

Being in the electrical construction segment of business, I am a realist when it comes to getting our power back on. With the amount of ice, all of the pole mounted transformers are basically grounded so utility crews are just chasing their tails trying to find where lines are faulted. Until we...

Welcome to the club and Happy Belated Bday. Been three days and still no power from ice storm. First signal I’ve had since Saturday and had to check on the Boys of the Stogie. Burning one now in front of propane heater on porch as temp dips to zero. Power probably not coming back for week as...

TuffPak Gun Case and Ammo Case Question

Would never put ammo in gun case regardless of any authorities opinion. Goes against every common sense reason for separating guns and ammo, and I am sure the one jurisdiction that could pull your guns off of the flight would. I have travelled with clothes in my TuffPak before. It has been fine...

I would stay away from Cubans due to cost and your cigar smoking experience. Not knowing your taste, I’ll throw some brands your way that are good and you decide from what is available. For a 30-45 min smoke, stick with a Robusto or Corona size, even a petite size in either. Look for something...

ZIMBABWE: Has Anyone Hunted With Brent Hein Safaris?

I did not hunt with Brent, but He was the 2nd PH in camp on a 15 day DG hunt in Zim in the Save I did with my safari buddy. Brent is a top notch PH, great comedic relief, and works hard to get you the opportunity at what you are hunting for. Thumbs up for sure.

    Would you like a Cigar?

Seems like everywhere I go the cost of a Cuban is prohibitive. In Riviera Maya, at the resort cigar lounge, a Partagas Series D #4 was $90USD. In a Vancouver cigar shop, $100, and on a cruise in the Med, it was $125USD. For a single stick mind you. Used to get in the Amsterdam or Doha airports...

    Researching dik dik hunts…

I was able to take a nice dik dik in Tanzania near Ruaha. They were quite plentiful in the area where I saw them. Flat arid sand pan with low scrub. I shot with a solid from my 375 H&H, and was told to sight two fingers behind shoulder as to not blow it up. Worked perfectly.

Word of caution (first hand) about hunting Mexico now

My family when our kids were young used to go to Honduras on mission trips building homes(shacks), distributing food and clothing, etc. same thing happened there. Due to drugs and gangs, the mission trips had to cease due to safety concerns. A sad situation indeed for the true needy.
