Go to the “hunt reports” section here in the site and read what all those who cared to report on their experiences are saying.
Agree with the above, any reputable ph will easily accommodate your wife’s needs.
Enjoy the planning end, a big part of the adventure!
I will go back to SA just for...
I really hate bullet threads-all kind of answers and all over the board with extreme bias.
I have in my group seen a lot of good kills on mule deer and whitetails with them in an array of calibers. I know we lost a three point mule deer when the bullet hit the humerus and failed to get into...
Monroe elk hunting is wonderful, a premium unit for sure. My nephew drew a late season pahvant tag which is also premium but hard A F!
He is young and invincible so will probably love it. But the real joy of elk is in mid-September when they are stinky, vocal and aggressive. Good luck with...
The weather can be unique to elk hunting-often done in snow and often late fall
After the rut has ended.
It is possible to have several tags in your pocket during an elk hunt. Often I have mule deer, elk, cougar and coyote tags. These must be drawn in a lottery or bought each year.
In kudu...
Interesting and I agree, unlimited in its breadth. Interesting because I have never liked varget in anything where I have tried it and I positively love rl 22 in several rifles. So very open to personal experience.
Some seem better suited to specific calibers such as IMR 4350 in the .30-06 or...
Gracy-travel is the most daunting part of the trip for me and they took every worry out of the way for me.
Planning the actual safari, that is a joy and a pleasure and I keep that for myself.
Beautiful bull! My first animal there was also a nyala bull-a very special animal. I’ve been there a number of times and also still haven’t seen all the home property, but parts of it are holy ground for me!
Looking forward to the remainder of your report. Dean and Don are great guys to hunt and share camp with, glad you got to spend time with them. Lots of experience and adventures to share. :A Popcorn: Eager for more
I would be fine taking other premium but less expensive plains game instead of a buffalo. Maybe a sable then other plains game or something to that effect.
But in reality, push the trip back one year and save more money so you can hunt more game while you are there-be it Buffalo or other-
Gentlemen-there are 30 pages of banter under the title “Mark Sullivan the Expose” already on this site and fairly recent. Do we really need to beat a dead horse for afew more pages?
Some guys will always be able to pay $10k for a whitetail or $200k for an elephant. It keeps the industry healthy so guys like me can be a small part of it. But guys like me also price shop and wait for “a good deal” and sometimes we just can’t be part of it anymore so we hunt what we can still...
I couldn’t afford my first safari nor the two that followed that one-but I want to go back for one or two more. So it takes more
Overtime and I have to cut some corners and I can only afford SA instead of zim, but I’ll go again, and again and again. . .
To be fair, white rhino can be legally hunted, but definitely not a poor man’s consideration. The dodo is thoroughly absent.
Bayly Sipple has a very affordable dart hunt in here right now that would let you touch one and get some photos. I think I would prefer this method with a rhino-
I’m glad you are going in June! I always have some trip in the planning stages and I have learned that I only get serious about my dreams once I have a deposit paid.
I’m on team “quality optics” but I retain some memories of great shots I have made with open sights-and hearing aids happen in July!
I ordered one in hardcover just now, thanks for the heads up! Shipping and import fees were a bit stiff, I should have looked around a bit fo other options-
They aren’t good bullets because nobody thought to put an “X” in there bae when they were invented. If they were the CoreloXt or the Xierra, or the Power X Point they would fly and kill animals with much more authority!
I always appreciated the fact that Ruark came from almost nothing and became one of the grandest legends in the hunting industry. He worked his way up despite the potholes.
Thanks for the post-I gotta believe looking through all those old playboys for an article by Mr. Ruark was almost...
Those old recoil pads get hard and mean-replace it with a nice looking modern one and never look back. A Timney trigger would be my next move. It definitely needs new scope rings and a base and would obviously benefit from a modern scope. Small upgrades will make a big difference to how the...
Do you really need solids? Talk to your ph, they may tell you to leave them home. Or maybe you want to hunt elephants or duikers with them. I would guess you don’t even need to take solids with you tho-
I suspect this has been mentioned already but it’s a good idea to read through the “hunt reports” section and see what kind of experiences others have had and shared.
I would also investigated the company’s that are sponsors on here already-there are many well vetted and highly respected options!
Option A and a native wood handle gets my vote. Have enjoyed watching you on the TV hunting channel this season. Keep up the good work and thanks for all you’ve done
I bought a .270 mossberg patriot about five years ago. The wood that it came with was very pretty but required bedding to stiffen and strengthen it up. Some of the magazine parts are plastic and not built for the duration.
Accuracy was tough. I finally worked up a handload for it with Speer...
Please forgive me as I slide down a rabbit hole-
I sent a pm to red leg appreciating his own artwork. I also was interested in wildlife art as a kid and hoped to someday paint a duck stamp. This picture is one I did in elementary school with colored pencils. I never had paint as a kid and...
I am grateful for the way I was raised. . .
I was taught to work hard, care for my body. I was brought up not just to simply trust in the Lord but to seek Him.
I have skills that are best learned growing up on a farm-something I wish I had to offer my own children!
I love and appreciate...
Prairie dogs, pot gut squirrels, woodchucks, and yes gophers-any of the gnawing rodents.
Love to do it all, fantastic practice. When we were young and arrows were cheap we ruined a lot of them on little hole diggers.
235 gr tsx
300 gr A AFrame
I use two different detachable scopes depending on what we are hunting. The 300 gra frame shoots very near to 300 h&h 270 gr factory loads so they have been excellent for practicing.
I like the idea of a custom build but if someone already has one you could
Fall in...
You are financially able, responsible and established. Take your wife and go make a truckload of memories.
It is different for everyone but it seem like you are on solid ground;)
The romance of Safari should not be found solely in the certainty of the hunt. Seeing your first rhino or elephant or collared sunbird or wild bird of paradise flower or (fill in your own answer. . . ) it’s the dinner table or campfire or skinning shed or watching rugby with true rugby fans...
