    Doha layover?

That was another reason I went with Qatar - the AA points/miles. My only gripe about AA is often having to fly through DFW. In spite of everything since 9-11, I still actually like flying. Most of the time, it means I'm headed for an adventure of some sort, even if it's just seeing the...

    Doha layover?

We're flying Qatar next month on our way to JNB. The direct to Qatar from IAH is 14.5 hours, plus a 9 hour layover in Doha. For me, it was a no-brainer. I'm bringing the missus, so doing business class for 2 was just not in the budget. I'm 6'6" and she's 5'11". Upgrading to economy+ brought...

    Woodleigh reloading manual?

@Letzhunt - what other powders do you have? I use RL-7 exclusively for my 45-70. I've put RamShot XTerminator through my 45-70, I find it grain-for-grain the equal of RL-7. Both Hornady and Swift show loads for RL-7 from 350 gr up to 500 gr.

That's the diff between an amateur and somebody who knows what they're doing. Even with my target 308, 24" heavy and fluted BBL, 6-24x50 scope, I'm making a chest shot from 150 yards. "Making a statement" with a head shot is just stupid. Achieving my objective by producing a corpse is...

    Woodleigh reloading manual?

Varget, H4895, and N130 are all very close to TAC burn rate. Substituting TAC at equal charge weight for H4895 in GRT, I get nearly identical velocity. Woodleigh shows 2210 fps at 72 gr and 2350 fps at 77 grains with H4895 GRT shows 2208 fps at 72 gr, and 2355 fps at 77 gr. with TAC That...

Even with the crappy BC for most .224 bullets, from a130 yards and a 10 mph full value wind, there's only 1.5" - 2" of wind drift. Aim at the bridge of the nose, it still goes in the eye ball.

I honestly don't know what to make of the polling. Nobody seems to be using polls to ascertain what is true, but rather to push a narrative. I don't think that's THE problem, but a glaring symptom of the problem.

9.3x62 - Large or Large Magnum Primers?

After I handed Charlie my GRT data, to get the predicted in line with observed, he calculated a 0.2" jump, which shows 97.3% at 62.5 gr or 2000MR - calculated is about 20 fps slower ( 2455 fps) than observed (2475 fps) at that data point. Pressure is calculated at 55244 psi.

9.3x62 - Large or Large Magnum Primers?

Norma, I'm away from my PC and GRT load data until next week. There is still a bit of room with the A Frames at 3.32, but the 258 gr Hammers at 3.3" are pretty close to needing a roll/taper crimp with the seater. Ball powders like 2000MR and Big Game seem to work better in a full case

9.3x62 - Large or Large Magnum Primers?

With 62.5 gr of 2000MR and CCI LR, I'm getting about 2475 fps with 286 gr A Frames, COAL at 3.32. And even at that length, I still have about a 0.06 jump. 3.291 is the official max coal for 9.3x62. I own 2 - a Zastava Mauser and a Sauer 100. I get to 3.38 max coal for them both - measured...

416 Ruger VS 416 Rem Mag

If you're taking a 300 yard poke with a 416/423/458, irrespective of solid vs soft, the only thing that matters once the bullet leaves the barrel is the ballistic coefficient. And unless the BC difference is greater than about .15 or .2, even the BC makes very little difference. Shooting...

416 Ruger VS 416 Rem Mag

OK, but other than regulating a double, what does 2400 get you (and are you really launching anything out of a double at 2400???) that 2200 doesn't? At DG distances, it certainly isn't a ballistic arc advantage. At 2200 fps MV, you're still around 2k fps at 100 yards, and around 3600 fpe with...

    Pig/hog damage to crops

The reality is that for working farms and ranches, the hogs are a big disruption. Bringing in hunters adds to the disruption, it doesn't reduce it. And there's some non-trivial liability to go along with the added disruption. Not allowing hunters on the farm/ranch is the least bad option...
