Neither is a bad choice, personally, I’ve always stayed at the Afton House, probably because they do a great job, Mr. X handled my paperwork, just became my routine.

I had both of my .375H&H’s barrels cut to 20”. I use mine for buffalo and elephant, I prefer the shorter barrel as I am not shooting 300 yards at a springbok. I don’t know there is a right or wrong answer. For me my shots won’t be over 100 yards so the shorter barrel makes sense, for me!

Every scope I have is Leupold, a VX5 in 2x10 would fit the bill nicely and keep you close to your budget. There are some nice Leupold's in the classifieds here for sale. I have purchased a number of scopes from @Mark Biggerstaff here on AH. Mark is a great guy and will take good care of you!

I've seen work done by both Bullseye and Lauriston Taxidermy in South Africa. Both put out quality products in a timely fashion. One thing I learned with South African taxidermist, they are not always great at communication.

Perhaps you have already been to Vic Falls, if not, make sure you take your passport when you go to the falls, you cannot get in without it. Also, when you go to the Victoria Hotel, be sure to walk around the entire first floor, there is some pretty sweet artwork to be seen.

@Wiley64, I absolutely love the look of the 20" barrel. I have had the barrels on both my .375H&H and 416 Rigby curt down to 20". Less weight, easier to get through the bush, no significant loss in velocity.

Through the years I somehow ended up with so many different calibers of guns, I am now working at having way fewer guns but more ammo per gun for the guns I am keeping.

@GAME 4 AFRICA SAFARIS is a class operation. My buddy and I both did a buffalo/kudu special, we both added several animals. Lodge, rooms, vehicles, guides, all top notch. I'm not one to go back to the same spot, but I do hope to return and hunt with Wik and the other guys!

I paid 3654.00 to fly business class on Ethiopian Airlines next month, Dulles to Vic Falls, then right at 3,000.00 to fly Economy Plus this September, Pittsburgh to Harare.

My dad's kudu sold for 425.00 at auction last year. I believe there were around 30 mounts sold, I had siblings thinking they may fetch 50,000 to 60,000, I told them they would not sell for anywhere near that, they sold for a total of 13,860.00. Mounted animals are a tough sell sometimes.

Our mounts are very meaningful to us, I’d be anxious too. On a different note, your post reminded me that they have a black bear of mine that they are making into a rug. Good luck with your mounts!

I am sorry for your frustration, this seems to be the 'new normal' with United. Too many times I have booked non-stop flights only to have a layover, or book a 2 hour layover in EWR and end up with a 7 hour layover. Hopefully, things will get sorted out for you.
