    GPS in Africa

I brought one with me to Namibia in 2018. We did a self drive tour after the hunt was done. It was invaluable for that portion of the trip. It wouldn't take an address as we know it though. I had to look up the coordinates of any place I needed to go, and plug it in that way. Worked very well.

    What are you reading?

"And No Birds Sang" by Farley Mowat. It's a memoir of the author's WWII experiences with the Canadian army in Sicily. A departure from his usual books on animals and the Arctic. Sometimes graphic, sometimes somber, not a lot of glory, but I think does a good job of explaining the realities of...

    Dreaming of a Double Rifle...

I have been daydreaming/tire kicking the idea of a double rifle around for some time. I've made a few bids on auctions (with the advice of those with knowledge from this very forum), and handled a few of the entry level pieces. I think - (maybe) that I have finally put this idea to bed. I...

    New Visa requirements for Namibia

This could very well be a tit-for-tat reciprocity kind of thing. We were in a little tour bus going from Botswana to Zimbabwe to go see Victoria Falls for a day trip. The bus held about a dozen people from all over the world. The Visa cost for each nationality was different, ranging from US...

What do you do for a living?

I've been a Firefighter for the last 23 years now. I take every overtime that I can get, and live pretty simply to be able to afford travel/Africa. No toys (boat, motorcycle, ATV etc.), and no vacation property either. This was our choice to live this lifestyle, as we value travelling and...

I met someone from the internet (and didn't get murdered!!)

I had the pleasure of corresponding with, and then meeting up with Shootist43 earlier this year. He graciously invited me to his home while my wife and I were on route to SCI. We spoke about all things rifle, gave me some great reloading tips, and generally made us feel like we were having an...

Does the price of ammo impact your choice of a rifle caliber

If the rifle speaks to me in some way, nostalgia, rarity, craftsmanship, or just plain lust for what crosses my path, I have purchased it in the past. Then, the search is on for components or a deal on the factory ammo that is required to feed it. For me, the search for these components is...

    Meopta Range finding Binos

I own a pair, 10x42, and really like them. The last time I took them to Africa, my PH needed a quick look at something and I offered them up to him. His reply, after looking through them, was "Jesus, what brand are these!" He likened them to his older Leica's as well.

Heym Martini Express 404 Jeffery Red Dot Mount

I posted this in another thread on the same topic. Hi, I'm hoping to get an answer to an old question here. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I have a Trijicon SRO sight, mounted on an AHR quick-release base that fits the bridge of a CZ550/BRNO 602. Does anyone know if I will need to...

Scheduling first hunt! + question regarding rifle

Hi Aiden204, and welcome to the Forum. I would say that whatever gun you choose, make sure you practice enough to operate it in your sleep. Whether that be a right hand or left hand rifle, use the one that you get the most trigger time with to feel proficient with. Having said that, there is a...

Is anyone using a red dot sight on their CZ 550 ?

After consulting with the Forum, I too purchased the Trijicon SRO with 1 MOA dot. I purchased a quick release mount from AHR that fits the Trijicon. I have since found an additional AHR mount that will fit a Leupold sight. Both fit on the front mounting bridge of the BRNO/CZ, and so far, it...

Hierarchy Of Double Rifles - Where does the Verney-Carron Fit In?

That was my original thought as well, and I was happy with it. However, when I saw this V.C. come up, it got me thinking that there may be options to broaden my knowledge, and perhaps get into the world of doubles. They seem fun, and let's be honest, they fulfill that portion of the African...

Hierarchy Of Double Rifles - Where does the Verney-Carron Fit In?

Thank you Pondoro. As I live in Canada, the choices on double rifles are dismal, to be honest. The market is very much "Take what you can get", or "Beggars can't be choosers". This V.C. would be at an upcoming auction here locally to me. I very much enjoy seeing your setup, thanks for...

Hierarchy Of Double Rifles - Where does the Verney-Carron Fit In?

Hi Rookhawk, thank you for weighing in on this. I presently own a BRNO 602 that started out as a .375 H&H, but was converted to a .404 Jeffery. It works very well, not pretty, but neither am I , so we make a good team together. The reason for my interest in the V.C. in .450/.400 NE is that...

Hello to all the learned and experienced. I pose a question to you, hoping to gain some insight into where a Verney-Carron Azur double rifle would fit into place on a list of desirable doubles. I think I would like to leave out any reference to any type of vintage, bespoke, English or...

Buffalo - Tanzania Tastes on a South African Budget

Thanks, I will most definitely be hiring the services of one of the rifle handlers if we decide on S.A.
