Good question. I also had accuracy problems. If it was caused by the gun or me is an open question because i am not used to shoot that big calibers like 9,3x62.

I had a good shot into the chamber, so the Norma Oryx with 285 grains made an excellent performance. The gemsbok walked obviously shocked about 100-150 meters into the bush were we found it. My rifle (Merkel Helix) has a barrel with a length of 56 cm. The bullet did not penetrate all the way.

I shot an oryx with the 9,3x62 on a distance of 180 m (checked with a rangefinder). I used the Norma Oryx amunition.

My Merkel Rifle RX.Helix is my companian with the good old 8x57IS caliber. IS means Infantrie stärker (not islamic state !!! ;-)) which is the same as Magnum. 8x57IS was the caliber of the german army in WWII. I shot my zebra with it. For Oryx i used the 9,3x62.

The 9,3x62 was created by the gun smith Otto Bock in Berlin for the german colonies. It was designed for hunting big antilopes, especially Oryx . For those who want to know a bit more about this caliber: It brings a lot of power into the target but the bullet falls if your distance to target...

Congrats for the great hunt. I was also on Geelhout Safaris and shot a Blue Wildebeest. Very nice place to hunt and Henry and his wife are very gentle people.

Thank God, wonder still happen !! Yesterday i received my trophies after 21 months. Although it took much too much time, i have to concede, that the taxidermy work was done properly and i have no complaint about that. Next week i am on a hunting trip in Namibia. I am so curious how it will work...
