Warm Weather Socks with Courteney Boots?

If it's hot I use only a liner sock to prevent blisters and the moisture weeking seems to cool the feet.

Yes, I have also hunted S, Africa and Namibia but am looking at hunting Buffalo + and want to try something new. I would like to narrow down my search to a country, then look for outfitters.

For Those That Have Been There?

For those that have hunted in all of Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, which one is your favorite? Let's assume the hunting quality is the same. Which one was most culturally interesting, best geography, nicest people, generally interesting, felt safest, etc? If you were going back, if...

Has anyone hunted Africa in boots like Danner Bull Runs or Red Wings?

These were the types. Look thorn proof and I find anything with waterproof membrane too hot. I figured if you can wear then for work for 10 hours, hunting should be ok too.

    Super Nova

I like the 26. More versatile. For waterfowl just screew an longer extendend choke - looks cool and puts those inches back on with a twist. For turkey and upland, the 26 is better.

    Knives - Why?

My faith is restored- plenty of knife users and lovers out there. I would suggest that a leatherman and a pocket knife would cover almost all Safari needs (as the visiting hunter). However, I might also make the argument that if you are hunting without a personal knife on you, you arnt really...

    Knives - Why?

Simple question - for a guest on safari, is there any reason to bring anything more than pocket knife on a hunting trip to Africa?

The humble 308 Win still a classic Bushveld caliber

Given the quality of hunting bullets, I believe the 308 is now better than the 30-06. Almost identical downrange results with less kick and shorter action. I own both as my two primary hunting rifles. Love both. If I had to choose- 308.

NAMIBIA: Has Anyone Hunted With Jan Oelofse Safaris?

I have hunted there. 2 years ago. Neat country- great game viewing. Food was ok, and some of the fenced areas seemed a bit small. Also, at the time there was no fire in the eve to sit around and chat- lodge life was tolerable but didn't add to the experience. I had fun but wouldn't go back.

Thoughts on putting a 3x9 scope on 375?

Is there any real reason not to mount a 3x9 scope on a 375 h&h which would be used on Buffalo down to diker, with backup iron sights, ranges out to 200 yards. Why or why not?

    Lesser talked about trophies- recommendations?

Well said, I'm looking at setting up a buffalo hunt in the next few years and would like to narrow down some of the areas. Lesser talked about trophies- recommendations?

I am an addicted wing-shooter. Truth be told, I'd be happy spending 3 days hunting something like impala and warthog and 7 days just walking around with shotgun hunting birds and checking out cool bugs, lizards, and flowers/plants.

Looking at expanding my wish list for future hunts. Apart from Kudu, Zebra, Gemsbok, impala, steenbok, warthog, bushbuck, Eland, etc. Any recomations on lesser known animals that provide a great hunting experience. Thinking animals like Lechwe, Lichestin Hartebest, Thompson Gazelle, etc. Only...

    Best Practical Safari Tips

You are right in a strict sense- but as someone who guides and is guided- you will only get what you paid for when you lump your car dealer or dentist in with guide/service staff- nothing extra. And you will never know what you missed.

    Best Practical Safari Tips

What is your best small but important/handy safari tip. Mine: Bring multiple packages of zip/cable ties. Almost as handy as duct tape and you can leave with Ph (if they want them) at end of trip. My zip ties have helped fix fuel lines, shoes, broken bino straps while on safari. What's you...

Browning, Mauser or Winchester for renting to US hunters in European trip?

Many hunters either seem to like or hate the browning safety so I'd go with the Winchester. All are good rifles but the m70 is very close to the "standard" off the shelf version of most north American sporting rifles. Boring but familiar.

    How do you afford Africa?

Another factor in hunting Africa is the main cost of a plains game hunt is often trophy fees. I have found no connection with cost of the animals trophy fees and how fun or challenging they are to hunt. I have taken mountain Zebra, kudu, etc. But a good warthog and steenbok still elude me...

    How do you afford Africa?

There is no secret really, exchange some restaurant meals, fancy clothes, coffee shop coffee, etc. for savings each month and when you have enough for a plains game hunt - go. The real expense is realizing you simply must do it again, again, and again....;)

    Anyone use a 6.5X55 ?

I traded a swedish mauser in 6.5x55 to an Inuit hunter for some art but not before I shot 5+ caribou with it. I'd hunt moose and elk with it with no hesitations - with a premium bullet. Sort of wish I kept the rifle now.

    Bring or Rent?

I tend to rent if not going after dangerous game. While I really like my own rifles, I am more of a hunter then a gun guy- if I didnt hunt, I doubt I would shoot recreationally. So, as long as the rifle is of decent quality, I've had little problem with using them. And I've enjoyed trying new...

    Best Namibian Outfitter?

I would suggest moving kudu, gemsbok and mountain zebra to the top of your list. Mountain zebra were not even a consideration...

    Best Namibian Outfitter?

Bolt up instead of safety switch?

I'm of the opinion that safeties used with good barrel control and other good safety behaviors is always appropriate- as is leaving chamber empty in addition to the above (when possible/appropriate).

    Of these, which one?

Looks like mountain reedbuck is the winner. I agree taking what africa gives is a good idea. But ph's still like a bit of direction and for me at least, the pot for trophy fees is not bottomless. Having a flexible wish list is a good idea in my humble view.

    30-06 220 Grain Bullets

Interesting thoughts. I should also say that my 30-06 has normally been loaded with nosler accubonds but I've had some problems with them on deer. It's not the accubonds fault- they work great most of the time, but I have had issues with expanding at close range (under 30 yards) on smaller deer...

    Trophy Fees Question

Well said. I quite like the trophy fee system. It allows "building" affordable hunts for most hunters - if they willing to make a few sacrifices and save up. I have also been blessed so far with outfitters/PH's that seem just as happy hunting impala as kudu. Thanks for the input.

    Trophy Fees Question

Yes- but the material and labour in a Mack Truck cuts into the profit margins deeply compared to a Ford Focus. And given the time and effort required an outfitter puts in for say, a leopard hunt, I can understand the related costs. But is the trophy fee purely a function of the market and supply...
