    Which caliber over .458

Kynoch factory with a 570grn doing 2150fps will give you about 5900ftlbs. Last load test with the 500 jeff was a 600grn at 2300 something for about 7200 ish ftlbs , before i pulled up , that was 107grns of adi 2206h. Just remember the 500 nitro has been getting the job done for a long time in...

G'day Ben , i too have the sako 500 jeffery and have run 105grns of 2208 and 100grns of 2206H , all with a woodleigh 600 grn pp and fed 215 primers. I'm pretty sure i've gone higher , but without my little black book i'm not going to suggest it. All cases fell out and primers were fine. If your...

What do you expect in a african bush camp

Decent camp stretcher , tarp over the top for rain and heavy dew , bit of hot water for a wash( do that with the campfire anyway). Bit of lighting , cold beer , decent tucker , some cleaning gear , good company and done.

Send it back , get a refund off cooper , buy a win70 safari in 416 rem mag. Unfortunately you will have to use a loaner this time but there is no way i would take that rifle dg hunting , i just wouldn't have confidence in it.

Hello Tim , i have a fn commercial chambered in said cartridge, with a 347grn woodleigh sp and 63grn of adi 2208 gives 2112fps . I beleive 2208 has the same burn rate as varget. Still working up a 400grn load.

    Sako 85 jeffery

G'day Enzo , the pad was replaced with a pachmayer decelerator as the stock one is rubbish. At the moment i am running a 600grn at 2100 which in this weight gun is ok . I'm not going to increase the weight as i like the lightness and pointability , mine feeds fine with no hangups , i've put 120...

Why are Weatherby guns in 375+ calibers not liked on a Safari?

I don't think energy is the issue here , everyone is talking about the velocity the ammo is capable of. You can handle 5000ftlbs at 2300 but when that 5000 is coming back at 2700 fps , then you get problems.

Large caliber's on a standard length action

All things being std DWB , a std 98 and a magnum mauser should be the same strength , but once you have opened up the std action , i can only see a weakening of the lug locking area and making the feed ramp steeper , which should lead to feeding problems. Feel free to pull me up here if i have...

Mounting a scope on a single bridge Mauser .416 Rigby

I would leave it open sighted and buy a 9.3x62 or a brno 375h&h for the scoped stuff. That rifle is too stunning to tamper with.
  36. B

Large caliber's on a standard length action

If the mauser werks deemed the std 98 action strong enough for big rounds , they wouldn't have made the magnum action. Just because you can make it fit , doesn't mean it's a great idea.

  38. B

Large caliber's on a standard length action

A lot of the large calibres were only squeezed into std length actions (98 mausers) because in most cases it was all that was available to the gunsmith to work with. The 500 jeffery will fit in std actions , but that is why it has the short neck and the rebated rim to fit on the 98 bolt face ...

    Next step up?

458 lott is more available , but i have a 500 jeff , and it is more fun . Handloading you can take it down to about 4800ftlbs at muzzle and then wind it all the way up to 8100, if you don't mind getting hit with a cricket bat. :D
