SOUTH AFRICA: KoringKoppie Hunting Safaris *Warning* Stay Away

Sorry to hear that. A divorce is always hard on you, even when they are amicable. For lots of different reasons. My ex and I were at different stages of our life, she was 10 years younger than me. And she had no interest in hunting, fishing or cattle which are my biggest passions. At least I...

Safari Vehicle Breakdown and how much did it effect your hunt

Not really indicative but we were the last ones out all 10 days. There was one day we were a PH short so that hunter(our group leader) joined us. I still got charged a 1:1 rate instead of 2:1 but I never clued in to that until he asked me after we had left.

Safari Vehicle Breakdown and how much did it effect your hunt

On my first safari I went with a group organized by a friend who had been there before and acted as an agent for the outfitter. This was in Namibia. I was assigned to a freelance PH who was a nice guy but not the most motivated fellow I’ve ever been around. Out of the 7 vehicles guiding us, mine...

Hunting cats in USA and Canada

I’ve never hunted any of them. This is just a post hopefully for interest sake. We saw this lynx just chilling out by a forest road while visiting family in Newfoundland. He didn’t have a care in the world and totally ignored us. This lynx is owned by a friend of mine here at home. Quite the...

We’re visiting my in-laws in Newfoundland right now and managed to get out for some fishing this morning. My wife, brother-in-law and I booked a four hour trip with Darren Park of Four Season Tours who operates out of Cox’s Cove in the mouth of the Bay of Islands. We were able to catch cod...

Well boys, what's your temperature like now?

After 6 years of drought here we’re finally on the receiving end of some beautiful May and June rains. It’s so nice to finally see everything lush and green instead of dried out and brown.

I’m a walleye guy for sure but not obsessed with them like many here. I’m a fan of any fish I can catch. Here in Sask the crazy walleye guys despise pike. I love pike…they are probably my favourite sport fish in this province followed closely by lake trout when I can manage a trip up north. On...

I am big time. I posted quite a few icefishing pics on this thread. Never have to worry about poor ice conditions here…last winter was quite mild and we still had at least 2 1/2 feet of ice.

Sounds like a very tiring way to fish! Alligator gar are another species that is completely foreign to us. We don’t have the giant white sturgeon that you fished, we have the smaller lake sturgeon. A big one would be 100-150 pounds. Maybe a bit bigger.

Have you completed the North American Super 10?

I’m sure it’s been done before but it wouldn’t be legal. As a Saskatchewan resident I have to be drawn to hunt them as well. I last got drawn in 2008 and have been applying every year since with no luck. You might want to check if Canadian non-residents can hunt pronghorn in Alberta. There’s...

Have you completed the North American Super 10?

Don’t want to rain on your parade but you’ll likely have to change your plans for pronghorn. There is not a hunt for non-residents for them in SK. The only exception I can think of is if there is an Indian reservation that allows it.

thats why I dont like doubles (have one)

I just watched it again over and over. The slow motion footage helped a lot. PH fired the first shot, then client #2 and PH #3. Who fired #4 I can’t figure out as to me (and I have zero experience with a double) it came too quickly after shot #3. During shots 3 and 4 the client’s right hand was...

Well boys, what's your temperature like now?

We can still use barbed hooks in Saskatchewan, however there are some lakes that are designated barbless. I think Manitoba is entirely barbless now. I’ve tried fly fishing with my buddy in B.C. and I believe that barbs were legal. As for the rest of Canada, I have not been fishing yet so I don’t...

    Toby Keith dies at 62

I knew that he was not well. I saw him on TV a few months back and he was very thin, but I was still somewhat surprised this morning when I heard on the radio that he had passed. What really caught me off guard was the fact that he was 62 years old. I always seem to forget how the years go by...

USA: AH At The Rockin G Ranch

Ragman would have liked to be there, @gizmo has done a pile of work since I was there 8 years ago. I’m not a bird hunter but I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to stay entertained! I have said before, if I ever go turkey hunting the Rockin G would be my first choice.

So the 308 Win seems approved by AH, what about the rifle?

I love the .308 Win. Pair it up with a Browning BLR and it becomes the perfect rifle for me. I may just have it buried with me when I die! I love my bolt rifles too but that little lever is just made to hunt. In the bottom pic it’s paired up with my Browning X-Bolt in 7mm-08. Can’t go wrong with...

That is so awesome. Your Dad sounds a lot like mine. Dad finally retired from farming 3 years ago at the age of 78. It has always been a dream of mine to take him on a big hunt somewhere but he always used the excuse that he couldn’t leave the cows. Now that he’s retired he says it’s Mom he...

    Eastern Cape April Vs July

We were there the last 10 days of July in 2018 and I don’t think the weather could have been better. In the early mornings I’d wear a hoodie but by 9 or 10am I’d shed it for just a T-shirt. Very pleasant. My only other trip to Africa was the first 10 days of April in Namibia. Again very...

    I've got a .243!

I love this post…put a big smile on my face. That rifle shoot do well for you on fallow. Using 95-100 grain bullets works well on our Canadian whitetails which are quite a bit larger and mule deer which are significantly larger than a fallow. There are quite a few members on AH that I’d love to...
