    Ruger RSC

Just curious to see if anyone has any experience with the Ruger M77 RSC? Good bad or ugly? Difference between the RSC and the RSM? I’ve got a 458 Win Mag RSC from 1979. Thanks

    PCR Testing

He’s flying out of DHN to ATL then to JNB. Does the 72 hours start with his flight out of DHN or ATL? I assumed it would be his first flight which is taking him to ATL. That’s the info he was looking for.

    PCR Testing

I have a friend hunting in SA and is confused as to if the 72 hour time frame for the PCR starts from his flight to Atlanta or from his flight from Atlanta to JNB? I wasn’t sure how to answer that. I would think his first flight. There’s a 3.5 hr layover and it’s over the holidays. Thanks

WANTED: Bowhunt & Sightseeing After Christmas

My wife and I are planning a trip to RSA for sightseeing and bowhunting after Christmas. Plans are to arrive on 12/26 in JNB at 4:30 PM and depart JNB on 1/3 that night. My wife has never been and we will both be bowhunting, however, she has several sightseeing adventures she wants to do as 1/2...

    Won a Safari

I am not mentioning the outfitter because Ive written 2 dicey reviews in my life that were [emoji817] accurate of my experience. One outfitter threatened to sue me for defamation and the other has had clients question my character via social media. My review is on AH and I stand by all accounts...

    Won a Safari

I'm not going to mention the outfitter publicly. Per the agent, lodging consists of a lodge, chalet and tent! You're guess is as good as mine what it'll be. The winning ticket included meals and lodging with a free Impala, blesbok or $500 towards trophy fees. Once I won, I was emailed...

    Won a Safari

Just a small rant: I recently bought a raffle ticket for $20 USD at a chance to win a hunt in Africa for (4) people and $500 towards trophy fees!!! Well, I won! So I thought. A few things that really bothers me about marketing in Africa. 1: Daily Fees 2: Trophy Fees 3: Airport Transport Fees...

    SOUTH AFRICA: BOWHUNT: Huntershill Safaris

Decided to hunt with Huntershills Safaris in the Cape for my 3rd Africa trip. The reason for booking with HH was relatively easy. First, I have never been to the Eastern Cape. Secondly, my mom would join me in this trip and I figured the travel she would enjoy. Lastly, well, from a monetary...

    Bear Taxidermy: Shoulder vs Rug

I'm doing a half mount on my bear. I think they look pretty good, otherwise I'd do a rug with a head mount.

    Best Broadheads for 50# bow

To each their own. Ive shot them all. Never once have I had any penetration issues with a good strong COC like Solid or Magnus. G5 Montecs penetrate great but in my experiences they leave poor blood trails.

When does your Archery/Bow hunt really begin?

I'd say it would be a safe bet to not go there anymore. That's not worth the financial cost of logistics alone. Not knocking Africa, but, its target rich. I think the mindset of some outfitters is that you there to spend money and not hunt specific species. Shoot whats in front of you. And...

When does your Archery/Bow hunt really begin?

Outfitters have a duty of being prepared before your hunt. It's their duty to make sure their clients are successful. Now, it's up to us clients to determine what "success" really is to us as individuals. I've been on hunts where the area has been overhunted and little pre-arrival preparation...

    Help/advise for bow hunting set-up

I'm with most all these gentlemen. Your setup is just fine. My preference is to go heavy on the arrow, specifically for momentum. However, a strong, sharp broadhead is a must. Don't get cheap and shoot multiple animals with the same head. Go buy you enough heads to shoot one per animal and...

New US Customs policy pertaining to bows & arrows for hunting

Atlanta has been doing this for quite some time. You'll have to remove your boots or retrieve your boots and allow them to inspect/disinfect them. Your bow cases will go through the inspection process as well. Typically they have never done too much inspecting in my case other than noticing it...

    Hunting prices 2018 v. 2019

I'd go a soon as you can. I'm in the process of booking my 3rd trip so I can take my mom. My mom is in her 60's and even though 2019 would be ideal financially, I decided that 2018 would have to do for the same reasons as mentioned above. It's best to go asap and reasonable for yourself. Don't...

    Using a Rage Hypodermic

Congrats IceMan on a great Safari. Unless I missed it, please give us a review of your hunt with Koos. I'd love to hear your opinion on his operation.

    Using a Rage Hypodermic

You should not have a problem. I personally like a bit heavier arrow. 450+ grains per inch total weight. The last outfit I hunted with don't shoot anything but Rages unless Giraffe, Buffalo, Hippo, etc.... Also, I hunted across the river from Kuche and Koos has a beautiful place! Have fun and...

    Anyone build custom arrows

Its tedious and Im sure not the only way to do it, but in instances I have had this issue, I heated up the threads on a field point and slowly worked it into the insert making sure I didn't leave it in too long for it to dry. Once you do this several times it usually get all the glue out and...

    Taxidermy pricing

Business is business. You can't knock someone from trying to make a $$. But there is a fine line between good and bad business. I personally wouldn't gamble away integrity and customer service. Especially when there is so much competition in RSA.

    Taxidermy pricing

I contacted a received price lists from three different taxidermist in the area. Just so happens, the taxidermist my PH uses gave us a quote that was comparable with the other two. So, as you can imagine, we didn't feel a need to use anyone else. The only reason I found a discrepancy was due to...

    Taxidermy pricing

You'd think more people, including myself, would know about it being you say its a norm. First time I've ever heard of "international pricing". Also, I've never seen where a commission was paid at the expense of a client, especially at near 100% mark up. So either people are aware of it and...

    Taxidermy pricing

Is there a difference? They have to attach a plaque to the skull for exporting purposes. The original taxidermy prices are very close to what Patrick R has depicted. My concern was the $500 USD difference with the original price and my invoice. They are making it right, but, charging hunters...

Backskins for all 3? I'm only doing one backskin. The original quote is $500 less than what they invoiced me for. They are making it right though.

    Taxidermy pricing

Update: I received an email from the taxidermist stating that the clients my PH took had a different price list than the list I was sent prior to my hunt. Therefore, if you hunt with my PH, your taxidermist bill doubles in price. I'm either the biggest SOB on the planet or this is the most...

    Taxidermy pricing

Just received a quote for my taxidermy bill. I'm doing European mounts on kudu, wildebeest, gemsbok and flat skin on wildebeest. $1140 USD. That's R15,857. Does this seem a tad on the high side for skull mounts and a flat skin? According to the taxidermist 2016 price list, it should have been...

SOUTH AFRICA: BOWHUNT: African Arrow Safaris Harry Nel

Absolutely. I'd never deny that the hunting is fantastic and that they have excellent quality. My only negative assessment would be with communication and customer service. As I mentioned before, this was our perception of the circumstances involved and I believe them to be fair and accurate. I...

SOUTH AFRICA: BOWHUNT: African Arrow Safaris Harry Nel

This was my second trip and I'll without a doubt go back to Africa. My first trip was a good experience and we just happen to have chosen to go with and try something new on this trip. Overall, the trip wasn't bad nor a bust. We killed a few animals and ate some great food. However, we were...
