    Want To Buy Husqvarna 9.3x62

I bought a Husky 146 from Simpsons. Had it rechambered from 9.3x57 to 9.3x62. Large ring 98 action. I bedded the action and added two Talley crossbolts. Put a 2-7x scope on it and took it to Africa. It's my favorite rifle.

    Rifle/ammo failure on Elephant

I could not watch the whole video. Just too painful. I've shot double triggered sxs shotguns my whole life and I think anyone new to double rifles should buy a twin triggered sxs double and shoot a lot of clays. Shooting doubles at skeet and sporting clays will build muscle memory and make you a...

    Lets See Your Upland Shotguns

Nothing at all wrong with a sleeved double. You are basically getting a new set of barrels. Critics sometimes say that sleeving destroys the balance of a good gun but that has not been my experience. Sleeving is a costly endeavor that requires a lot of skill. The gunsmiths doing sleeving...

Old School vs. New Tech: What’s Your Go-To Rifle for the Veld?

My favorite is a Husqvarna Mauser in 9.3x62. Made about 1940. It is a Model 146 that was a 9.3x57 that I had rechambered to 9.3x62. It's a plain rifle but it sure looks old school cool.

Avoiding CTE, brain damage, retina injury etc with big bore rifles ?

Interesting that you describe it like being in a car accident. That's exactly what I told my wife about the recoil when my rifle was at its original weight. I told her that it felt like I'd been in a car crash. I too had headaches until I brought the weight of my gun to what worked for me. I...

Avoiding CTE, brain damage, retina injury etc with big bore rifles ?

My 416 RM weighed 9 lb 4 oz w/o scope and it beat me up. A little better with a scope at about 10 lbs 4 oz. I added weight to make it weigh 12 pounds with the scope and it was comfortable to shoot. I carried it without a sling for 10 days no problem. Add some weight.

    Cash on Safari

My wife and I split up our cash. We each have a money belt plus a pouch that we sling under our shirts. Since we also do side trips to Kruger and other tourist spots, I carry a "fake" wallet. Very nice hunt report. Your photography and writing are excellent! I have hunted the Waterberg with Riaan and Henk and you were in good hands. I especially like your attitude towards the hunting. That it's the totality of the experience and not just the killing. I'm quite sure that you will...

    My baby got a haircut

I'm glad you like your suppressed Model 70 but it's not for me. I like classic guns and rifles and wouldn't think of doing that to a rifle. I know the suppressors have some positive attributes but I enjoyed learning to handle the recoil of my 416 and did not find it terribly loud while hunting...

    Rifle drills for Cape Buffalo

As others have pointed out, a good first shot and quickly reload and keep shooting as long as he is upright. Plan on shooting your gun until empty. Dry fire with dummies is great for this. Always practice as if it's the real thing. NO catching brass while practicing. If you do, you'll do it...

The problem we have is that we're at the mercy of guys like this to get the paperwork done. Greener crossbolt third-bite lock behaving whimsical

The good news is that the Greener bolt is properly fitted and actually engaging the rib extension. I agree with others that the gun just needs breaking in. I do close my vintage doubles gently but I am sure you won't damage a modern double by closing the gun firmly and letting the top lever...

What’s this on the barrel for?

If the rifle has sling swivels I'd say it anchors the front swivel. Swivels fastened to the bottom rib put a big strain on the rib and perhaps the gunmaker was looking to prevent a rib separation. A picture from the side would clear this up. I'm also assuming that it doesn't interfere with sighting.

    Planning my first African safari!

Once you're with your outfitter the logistics of having the toddlers along will be easy but, it's a very long flight. The stress level will be high already because it's your first trip. Holy Smokes!!!

High velocity shotshells are really a gimmick. The sphere shape of a pellet is terrible aerodynamically. Worse if it has the silly "belt" around it that some makers use. The drag on individual pellets increases dramatically with an increase in velocity. So much so that at longer ranges the high...

    416 help

The Weatherby gives you 300 additional fps that you don't need and you pay the recoil penalty. The ph and trackers don't appreciate the muzzle brake. Get a 416 Rigby, Ruger or Remington that gives you 400 grains at 2400. With a rifle of appropriate weight, no brake needed.

2nd gun companion on Buffalo + safari?

I suggest just one 404 and nothing else. If your rifle breaks, your PH will make a plan and get you a rifle to use. Not many rifles fail on what really are short hunts. If you memorize your holdovers, any shot within normal ranges are easy. Earlier this year I took a 416 with two scopes. A low...
