My experience, it’s worthless in Namibia and South Africa.

I started using skin so soft over deet at home. I blame some negative impacts on wood, plastic/rubber, and metal on over exposure to deet (on guns, binoculars, etc). May be wrong about that, but only thing I could point to to explain it. Also makes me smell nicer than deet.

I personally prefer the flight to Jo’burg. Get the long flight over in one lick. Spend the night in Jo’burg. Short flight to Windhoek the next day, rested and ready. This is assuming you’re hunting within a few hours drive of Windhoek.

I would say the information I’ve gotten over the years through their publications was probably worth the membership fees, although with internet and sites like this, they are no longer my primary sources of hunting news and info.

Did ocean freight once during Covid when couldn’t get crate on a flight. Seemed like a great price going into it. Actually ended up costing more than air with all the port fees that were tacked on at this end.

As far as other things to ask about… VAT. There will be a tax on all animals not exported. Especially if you book a package, ask about VAT upfront. This could potentially add up quickly. If your going on a trophy hunt or cull hunt, and don’t plan to bring anything home, ask about the VAT.

There are many on this site with a lot more experience than me that I’m sure will give you more information. But in the meantime, I’ll give you my 2 cents having done a couple of cull hunts. June and July would certainly be during many outfits prime trophy hunting, but…. They are money making...

All of mine are super supple. If you have it done in Africa, I’ve never seen them done any other way. I’ve had some done here. My taxidermist refers to them as “soft tanned”, I believe.

Just be careful with quotes for ocean freight. My last one didn’t include port fees that ultimately added up to equal air freight fees.
