They are an impressive Trophy and the Norhern Territory is a really interesting part of Australia with very good salt water fishing and wild boar opportunities also.
The point I was trying to make is that there does not seem to be an abundant number of good outfitters for Kyrgyistan and having a bad experience is the norm not the exception.
To clarify, my extortion comments were more aimed at the Outfitter who charged us to get our rifles back after they were confiscated at the airport. This was because the Outfitter made a mistake with the dates on our licences. These expired the day before we were due to fly out. Instead of just...
I feel it is a fairly bold statement, just to say, " Find a good Booking agent and go"
Even if the booking agent has good intentions, They are still using a hunting guiding operation in Kyrgyistan and I dont know of a single such entity that has a good reputation. Believe me i have spent many...
I'm heading to fiji around August 2025 for a holiday with my wife. I'm going to take along a 4 piece heavy popping rod and a good selection of lures.
Can anyone suggest a resort that has a break wall or good rock fishing where i can target pelagics? I dont mind casting for hours for the chance...
I would suggest a Marco Polo hunt would be a big dissapointment with regard to the aspects of the hunt.
Charging around in a 4WD in an attempt to cut off some rams, piling out of the car and being told to take 700 meter shots at running animals off the bonnet off a Russian Jeep, all while the...
There is an Outfitter in Australia, he's a fringe famous Bow Hunter, I booked based on his reputation of being a famous Bow Hunter rather than an Outfitter. People in Australia will know who he is.
Since I did my trip I have heard the same thing from other hunters who have used him. Lots of more...
I have heard nothing but horror stories lately about hunting in Kyrgyzstan. My own trip in 2022 with an Australian Outfitter was a disaster in many ways.
The in country hunting guides behaviour was atrocious, complaining to us about the lack of tips, despite the fact we had tipped them over 9K...
He pretty much focuses on Aussie and Kiwi hunters. So hard to get a good 8 point Sika in NZ unless its in a glorified Pen.
There are a couple of execeptions. Ngamatea and Poronui Station are free range private land stations in NZ but you will pay for a hunt there.
Japan is still the best bet...
To be fair, i have had no issues flying into the NT with Firearms as a QLD resident and did it regularly before i settled in the NT. The airlines are only interested in the fact that you have a gun licence and and thats it. Sounds like a different scenario for overseas visitors
I recon your best bet if you want to hunt a Buffalo is to befriend an NT resident that can offer to take you on a hunt. It would be even better if you could reciprocate to that hunter with an equal quality hunt in the US. Something like we can't hunt here like a White Tail buck or Javalina...
You might be ok if you just took your time and stayed hydrated with cold drinks. Having a comfortable camp to return to with fresh food makes a difference as well..
The Late Dry Season in the Northern Territory always signals the peak of the local hunting season for me. This is the time when the head high spear grass has been burnt off, a lot of the ground water has dried up and the relative high temperatures and humidity drive the animals towards remaining...
There are scrub bulls available for the Back County Hunts which are a NT Govt Initiative. In order to get on those hunts you just need to go with an NT resident. BCH are only $25 a day.
My friend and I both shot a nice scrub bull on the same day on one of these hunts.
PM me later in the year if you are interested. I just got my Corporate licence and am offering budget Buffalo Hunts next year. Free range on Station land. Roughly 5K Au.
These will be decent spot and stalk exciting hunts with the opportunity for big NT boars also..
They are physically quite a big bigger than Cape Buffalo, but generally not aggressive.
They are curious though and will eye ball you for ages, which unsettles a lot of people.
Krgyzstan is a very very corrupt country and anything can happen. You would have to be crazy to go there on a Hunting Safari without at the very least travel Insurance. I'll be using Global Rescue next time I go there for sure...
June to Late August is the Dry season and the most comfortable time to be hunting in the NT, however September to Early October (before the first rains ) is the easiest period to find Buffalo as they will be concentrated around any remaining water. I'ts just very hot and humid during this period.
Planning my next overseas hunt for 2024 and was wondering can anyone reccomend a good Outfitter for an Ibex Hunt in Turkey?
Preferably with personal experience with the Outfitter not just word of mouth
Thank-you in advance
Not 100% but I know several Guides that dont have any kind of Licence, they just have an ABN and Liability insurance etc..
I have since written to NT Tourism to get 100% confirmation.
I have never used a Whelen but Sambar Hunters swear by them in Victoria. Id say with decent projectiles it would suffice.
As always shot placement is much more important than Caliber alone, in my view....
So using a heavier caliber is how you compensate for your Buck Fever aye? Iv'e heard it all now. I suggest if you are afflicted that badly then perhaps you shouldn't be hunting until you have that under control.
I wasn't screaming it from the hilltops, I was just suggesting if you have a 30/06...
Aside from the PSE carbon bow I recon bows in general have been getting heavier and more complex for not much net gain. The best period was around 2017 and it's been down hill ever since IMO.
Unfortunately in Australia a lot of hunting Outfits bag their Opposition. If you dare mention there might be some cheap or free opportunities around you will get shot down in flames..
When i moved to Australia from NZ I did about 10 years of Bow Hunting only. I have slowly moved back to rifle hunting since I have started doing Expensive overseas and Guided Hunts. This is because I can't afford to come home empty handed for these types of hunts. If money was no object then I...
4K for a budget hunt up to more than 10K in Arnhem Land and depends on the duration and location.
The Station hunts tend to be cheaper because partly they are easier to access than Arnhem Land and you are not paying for NLC permits
