    Wanted CZ 550 300 H&H

Waynes price for an action with his safety and trigger is super reasonable for what you’ll get, particularly compared to what a donor rifle would run you right now. I’ve a 300 win mag safari magnum that Wayne did a number 2 upgrade on for me and it’s a dream of a rifle. You’ll be happy having...

Looking very forward to a report. If you’re the one I’m seeing on WhatsApp, you’re having a hell of a hunt! I’d love your review of the camp itself, I’ll be there for lioness with Lin next August.

Flat point VS Round nose solids

After reading @michael458 's extensive testing on this and other forums, I went with CEB Safari Solids with the #13 nose profile. I had no complaints on penetration with my elephant.

    Merkel 140AE,DE - 470NE For Sale

Great rifles. I bought a 140AE Cabela’s special order 14 years ago and it came with a fantastic grade of wood plus a mercury recoil reduced, but lesser engraving. I’ve been extremely happy with the accuracy and functioning of it.

Scope for CZ 550 in .416 Rigby

I love a Swaro Z6i 1-6EE on a versatile range rifle. My 375 wears one. I put a Kahles Helia RD on a 458 Lott and under 100yds I love it. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a second one to set up as a backup for my 375.

    .585 bolt gun in Africa?

There was a gentleman on AR who bought his father a rifle from AHR in .585 AHR. I believe he took a few buffalo with it. Intriguing rounds, but I'm not sure what they'll do that a .458 won't for a client hunter. That being said, I'm always contemplating something in the .505/.510 realm.

470 NE non solid for elephant?

I woudn't use a soft of any construction on an elephant. Nor do I think you'd find a PH who would recommend/allow it. Although you're planning on a side brain, your shot opportunity (or necessity) may dictate a frontal brain, potentially under duress.

    300wm rifle scope

I’ve had no wants from a Swaro Z6 1.7-10 on my 300 win mag. It’s been used on whitetail and plains game, so no shots beyond 250yds to date, and I don’t anticipate using it further. Just picked up a Z6i for a 308 win for a blackbear hunt in Alaska in September, I’ll likely swap this scope to the...

270 grain vs 300grain which is better for cape buffalo and lioness

I'll be hunting lioness next year and using 300gr Woodleigh PP's out of my 375 H&H running 2550fps. I've used the 350gr version at 2250fps out of the same rifle in 2017 for two cape buffalo with great effect. I wouldn't hesitate to use the 300gr Woodleigh for buffalo.

Does the perfect fixed blade for Africa exist? Whether it does or not, what should it look like?

I've carried a Gene Ingram B&T #4 on every hunt in Africa I've taken so far. I find it the right size for cutting biltong and opening packages. It's right at home breaking down a whitetail here stateside. Haven't put it to heavy task in Africa outside of the below elephant tail.

Anyone tried a magnifier with red dot on large caliber dangerous game rifles?

Cumulative recoil over lifetime can contribute to stress fatigue at some point, but we're talking a significant increase in recoil forces between a 308 and a 458. I'd liken it to being punched in the ribs: sure I might end up with a rib fracture after my 8 year old punches me 1000 times, but...

Anyone tried a magnifier with red dot on large caliber dangerous game rifles?

I'd think the same as AZDave. The higher COG of the magnifier on that hinge with something along the lines of a .458 Lott in recoil would have me concerned for durability. Either disengaging the lever holding the magnifier in place or compromising the whole hinge.

    Solids?

I've shot one elephant, and been present for one additional, with CEB solids in .416/400gr and .458/500gr. Both instances had no indication of bullet failure. The CEB Raptors I've only used on whitetail so far (.308/100gr and .308/130gr). In a sample of 5 deer, all dropped at the shot. I'm...

What is the ultimate stopping rifle..?

I felt well armed this year with a 458 Lott. If I were to do another dedicated elephant hunt (or a first rhino hunt), I might contemplate stepping up to a 500 class rifle. I tend to shoot bolts better than doubles, so likely a 500 J or 500 A-Squared. That being said, I wouldn't NOT go on the...

Questions about the African Carry and Others

I've never found the African carry comfortable, and don't employ it from that standpoint. While I agree it can allow for sweeping others with the muzzle, muzzle control is independent of carry method. I can point the muzzle to the right of the person in front of me just as easily as I can point...
