@USN all the best to you too. Wounding DG is tough on any person, especially when someone can or does get hurt.
Thankful that everything seems to be OK in the end.
They work.
Know of quite a few buffalo and elephant that they have taken out of 404s.
Blessed in SA to also have the choice of Rhino and Safari Bullet Company
@Rule 303 thanks for the compliment, but hey, you do realize the is 6000ft/lb out the muzzle of that gun and not a 174gr bullet traveling at the same speed
Why we got to the open palm discussion was because people talked about short stroking and I gave a whole description...
The more I look at both the more I like the SSB.
I am most likely not gonna build more dream rifles on great actions, but I guess I have to be the one who likes and enjoy it  :p
Just a little bit concerning the history or collectability of the action, I actually bought the barrel from Mr DJ (Casey) Lewis who ran the Vektor project.
I ran the option of rounding the front bridge past him and he had no issue with it as long as it is done properly.
So it is something that...
Vectors are probably a lot scarcer than VEKTOR, but a DSB would be every bit as much scare as a SSB.
Why you ask? Because I think it is damn sexy    :p
Thanks gents, appreciate everyone's comments and thoughts thus far!
Will have to get the quotes and see about the viability of mounting a red dot of my choice on the rear sight.
As much as I love my Aimpoint Micros, they don't add to the looks of the gun
But they sure work!!!!
Rather a Jeffery clone
The few original Jeffery rifles were all single square bridge as well.
Thanks Gents,
Red dot will be mounted by having a new rear sight with provision for red dot to clamp onto if possible.
I am an Aimpoint guy, but not too sure how I am gonna make this work though!
Turning 39 this year. 98% of the time I do not have a gun with a scope on, I use red dots extensively (kind of like choosing the way I want to hunt).
Idea is to build a gun with value that my wife can sell if I go one day
Can slap a scope on my 404 if I need to.
Dear Mr @Ontario Hunter,
I cannot answer your question in a meaningful manner.
There is history behind these things.... if you don't know or care for it, it won't make sense.
I have 2 options only:
Keep it DSB or make it SSB.
Removing both bridges is simply NOT NEGOTIABLE
So ever since I saw this image, I have been enamored with a big bore rifle with a single square bridge action:
So I am now in the daunting yet fortunate position to be having my very own 500 Jeffery built.
I was very fortunate to find a barrel with the exact profile I like already fitted...
Good Day All,
I need to give thanks where thanks are due.
Firstly @JvW from gunsonsafari.com who referred me to the kind gentlemen from germanhuntingguns.com
Mr Larry B. Schuknecht supplied the following information:
That information comes from the personal Archive of Pape & Kellner. I found...
Hi Gents, anyone have any links or info to this maker?
It is a German 9.3x74 double most likely from the guild builders.
We need official proof of the maker as this rifle is having issues bein registered on the Central Firearms Register in SA.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Following this as my build is about to start!
Vektor DSB action that I am seriously considering making a Single Square Bridge
And barrel of unknown maker but registered as Jeffery on our police system.
I prefer just having a slightly longer bolt handle installed.
However, you can also add one of those rubber bolt balls which gives more grip and technically lengthens is.
I also have my bolt handles engraved/checkered
Gents, this discussion has now obviously gone a few different directions. But there seems to be some uncertainty about the "in the shoulder cycling".
I use the open palm technique. And here is why:
Looks at the mechanics of your arm. Bring your open hand back to your shoulder. Now bring your...
Practice, Practice, Practice
We need to build up muscle memory and get to know your rifle.
We had a BASA shoot again yesterday, and in the hands of well practiced individuals over 3 ranges the doubles were again 20 seconds faster over the 3 ranges for the day than the fastest bolt actions...
Who would not want to carry this with a fine rifle?
All part of the adventure where wood and steel help us pursue our dreams.
Not dependent on PH when hunting as a local, but for me it's all part of the romance. Same reason I walk around in a pair of buffalo hide boots every day...
Two words: Harry Wolhuter:LOL:
I did always carry a Glock Bayonet whilst hunting Bushpigs over hounds, but have since just upgraded to a Glock...
Always have a Leatherman Wave on me as well as a Honey Badger folding knife.
It is that sliding bullet alignment plug or whatever they call it that causes the issues!
Always chamfer your cases and make sure that little mongrel is moving inside there!
There are more wild, wild managed and problem lions hunted in SA than anyone would acknowledge or admit because of the attention it receives.
I am thankful for the opportunities I have had and hope to have more.
And if you wonder how.... the permit system actually differs for a captive bred...
