I have seen them used variously. Lamp stands was one. In,I think, Trophaendienst near the airport at Windhoek. They make nice displays when polished up.
Hopefully I haven’t made a horlicks of getting this form to here. It may be useful to others trodding this well worn path.
Thanks to @Luminous Ham for pointing me in the right direction.
It would appear to be a simple aftermarket 2 stage trigger for a right handed shooter. The retaining pin on yours appears to be threaded , which is advantageous.
Flying to Namibia in a couple of months with Ethiopian Airlines. I’ve flown with them several times before, as recently as 2023. I was able to find that form on their website. This evening it has either totally eluded me or it isn’t on the website.
Does anyone either have a link to it or is it...
I’ve been using 173gr SPCE in my7x57 for the last while. It’s an ordinary cup and core bullet. While performing well on our thin skinned deer such as sika I would be reluctant to use them on thicker skinned animals in Africa. Any bullet remains I have recovered have simply been that, remains. No...
Browning A-Bolt is one to consider. I have one for a number of years and am quite happy with it. I like the tang safety and the 60 degree bolt lift. It is far more accurate than I am.
Two scopes come to mind that imho cover nearly all the bases. As mentioned earlier the Swarovski 1,7-10x42. The is also a similar offering from Meopta, the R2 in 1,7-10x42. Both scopes have illuminated reticles, something that these days once you’ve used one you are sold on them.
I use the Viperflex journey quad sticks for a couple of reasons. The legs comprise of 3 pieces. The centre piece is carbon. In the winter the carbon does not transmit the cold as much as the aluminium.
When travelling they break down and fit in my rifle case with a bit of judicious packing. I...
Haven’t we all at some stage ? If you haven’t missed you simply haven’t done very much shooting.
Some missed shots when you do your post-mortem and try to analyse what went wrong can be difficult to figure out. Excitement, poor light, bullet strike on vegetation. As long as you haven’t wounded...
Did you buy the 375 recently At Holts ? Only asking as my 7x57 is one serial number away from that one. I was seriously considering buying it but I’m a leftie and I reckon that if I need a quick, fast reload with a 375 it should be left handed. It would make a marvellous African pair.
I agree, I have hunted on cattle farms in Namibia where the wild animals need to be managed. This is mainly oryx but jackal, baboon and caracal are on the menu also.
Definitely in Namibia you can get a lot of Springbok shooting. Oryx are numerous and my favorite animal to hunt in Namibia. I’m heading there in early May for a very reasonable oryx cull.
No one flies directly from LHR to Windhoek. Lufthansa and Ethiopian are the only two airlines flying from Europe into Namibia.
Lufthansa necessitates a change in Frankfurt. Ethiopian necessitates a change in Addis Ababa. Otherwise it’s into Jo,burg and from there to Windhoek.
I’m a lefty also. Both eye and handed. I own a couple of Mauser actioned rifles and am very fond of them.
However when I caught the African bug I started thinking about dangerous game and a buffalo came on appearing on my mental horizon. With this in mind I searched for a left handed 375. I...
Guinness is stout, a distinctly different flavour and aroma but let not that put you off visiting the Hop Store. I’m sure they will serve some of the amber nectar in the Sky Bar. The view over Dublin is impressive.
If you do take a side trip to Ireland make sure when in Dublin to visit the Guinness Hop Store for a pint in the Sky Bar. Irish Distillers Whiskey corner is just over the Liffey.
When you’ve done these you can then stagger back across the river, maybe a pint in the Brazen Head or Fallon’s on New...
I would suggest that these are original Mannlicher Schonauer actions that have been overhauled and rebarreled.
In the first picture is a bipod in the case mistakenly left there by someone. I cannot imagine anyone of taste attaching a bipod to a fine rifle like that.
The perfect choice ! My Browning A-Bolt, left handed, in 375 and my Rigby 275 on holiday in Namibia a few years ago. The 275 topped off with a Zeiss Diavari-C 3-9x36 loaded with 175gr Nosler Partitions has been a great plains game rifle. I’ve just noticed the Rigby is not wearing the Zeiss as it...
Ron Thompson has written several books about his experiences as a Game Ranger in Rhodesia. All available on Kindle so you can read them cheaply and then decide if you want hard copies.
A great writer imho.
Ian Nyschens book, Months of the Sun, is very readable. J.A. Hunters books are great.
No, this is an old one,I forget just how old, that a friend of mine bought over 30 years ago and gradually customised it. The safety is now a rhs M70 style. He added a Timney trigger and had it restocked and reblued at other stages. It sports a Swarovski Habicht 2,2-9x42 scope.
It shoots...
There is a thread on “The Stalking Directory “ about this. Apparently firearms export in Germany is a little complicated and with the amount of hardware going to the Ukraine a big backlog. Sorry I can’t be more help.
You could fit on a side mount. This is screwed onto the left hand side of the action. Anecdotally I have heard that you should use the long side mount other than the short side mount.
Google Mauser 98 side mount. I believe I have seen them on eBay and eGun.de
I’ve flown into Timosara a couple of times. Lufthansa in Europe is my airline of choice. It would require transferring in Frankfurt or Munich. However Lufthansa handle firearms competently.
Are you hunting with Mihai ?
No, neither I nor the guys I have traveled with ever removed our scopes. Ok, one did but it was a seriously expensive scope for PRS purposes.
First couple of trips my rifle went in a Peli 1720. Long and bulky. Then I wanted to bring a second rifle. Ok, both fitted in ok. Pain in the backside...
Flying from Ireland to South Africa last year they wanted €250 each way ! That was actually more than my ticket by €15. I declined their kind offer. It is per case. They state on their website that you can carry several firearms in a case, up to 32kgs gross.
I will add my 2c to this. You will not be disappointed taking up this great offer. Myself and my buddy shot our first, hopefully not our last, buffalo with Wik last year. A great experience with a very competent PH.
Great lodge, great food, great hunting. What’s not to like about it ? ♂️
If you are in Namibia a company called Save Your Socks make excellent leather gaiters. They have a Facebook page. You can order from them in advance and have them delivered for a small charge to wherever you are hunting. They are small money relatively. Mine have lasted several trips and I wear...
I thought we all did it something like that. Personally I’ve given up on boresnakes. A good clean with Thorroclean every 40-50 rounds does a great job.
We stayed at City Lodge last year after hunting with @GAME 4 AFRICA SAFARIS . It was very reasonable. Barnies Beach Bar a few minutes stroll away was a fun place to eat and drink. The locals do appear to enjoy a bottle of Prosecco with breakfast !
I’m thinking Air France maybe. Airlink will be the airline in South Africa for the Jo,burg to PE leg.
I just had a look at their website. There is one option giving you a 14 hour layover in Paris.
If your baggage is checked all the way through you are good. If you have to collect your luggage and check in again at Heathrow you are in a world of pain.
I recommend Apple AirTag in your luggage. I believe there is now similar for Android.
