Both will do the job. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor and a 7 PRC. Take the one you are most comfortable with. If you shoot both equally well, take the one that has the higher bullet bc. Elevating for distance is easy but calling the wind in east cape will make the difference. Use the Vortex ballistic...
Great information from everyone and I appreciate it. I wanted to clarify my post last night as I don't want to offend anyone, but all the responses jogged my memory back to when I varmint hunted at night, it's been a minute. As I get older, I seem to have forgot more than I know.
35-40 years ago, I did a lot of varmint hunting/calling at night using a red lense spotlight with either an open sighted 22lr or a 22-250 scoped with a weaver 3x9x24. I actually still have this scope.
During this time I routinely made shots out to a couple hundred yards at night while using the...
Looking for suggestions from you Cat Guys for best magnification range, objective size and specific brand/model for a night leopard hunt over bait.
Obviously, illuminated reticle or fire dot would be a must.
I have a Leupold_VX-5HD_4-20-52_CDS-ZL2_34mm-Side Focus Duplex, new in box, $1,500.00 shipped to lower 48.
I also have a Talley 20 MOA Pic Rail for Remington 700 LA and 34mm Night Force Rings, $175.00 Shipped to lower 48.
I bought these items several months ago for a rifle build I decided to...
Gents, I have received too many PM's last night to respond to individually this morning and thought I would give everyone an update.
First person that contacted me confirmed they bought 3 boxes of the older version in the paper box.
Second person never responded to how many they bought.
Third...
I have been scouring the internet for 375 H&H 300 Grain, Swift A Frame and Trophy Bonded Bear Claw to which I have found none listed anywhere.
I decided to call one of the local guns stores in my area and low and behold they have around 16-20 boxes of 300 Grain Trophy Bonded Bear Claw in the new...
Absolutely. I went on a guided elk hunt in New Mexico back in the mid 90's with a good friend of mine. it was a 2 on 1 hunt and he won the coin toss to shoot first. The guide would take us to hay field each morning and we would go in the dark, get set up and wait for first light. I had a 4x16x50...
I would appreciate it Pat. This may sound crazy, but I will just as happy for you guys to get one as I would be for myself. Goes back to my whitetail guiding days many years ago.
We were originally schedule to be there the last 2 weeks of May, but had to change the dates due to conflicts that...
Welcome fellow Texan! Run a search for Jaco Visser and NKWE Safaris in Botswana. Jaco has over 180,000 acres (low fenced) near Ghanzi where he runs plains game hunts. All reports are to expect to see 15-20 mature bulls a day in the mid 50's. My son and I will be there first 2 weeks of June...
Thank You to @MontanaPat, he steered me in the right direction and I have just acquired a Winchester Safari 375 H&H. Pat it was a pleasure speaking with you.
On another note, I spoke to Matt at HCR yesterday regarding a conversion and he mentioned 2 calibers that could be converted to 375 H&H...
With the difficulty in locating a new reasonably priced Winchester Safari, what calibers have the magnum action and bolt face to be converted to 375 H&H by re-barrelling?
Time of year can be important, depending on size property you hunt and numbers of game.
May-June can be a little warmer with leaves still on trees which can make it harder to see game. Bonus of going early is you could be one of the first hunters for the season on said property and more top end...
I believe Matt Vejar is there right now, so should see his report week after next I would imagine. You can find his report from last year on here, it was incredible. MontanaPat will be there end of May into June and I will be there day before he leaves.
That is for sure, Matt is the best. I bought a 270 Weatherby Sheep Rifle from them right after they opened up shop. Best 3 shot group I ever had with it, I covered the group with a dime and you could not see the holes. That was with factory ammo. I'm going to put this rifle on here for sale next...
Hey Pat. We fly into Maun on June 3rd. Might get to spend a night in camp together and tell some stories. I believe @MattVejar is their right now. His hunting report last year is one of the reasons I booked. Looking forward to his report this year when he gets back.
If wifi is good, I am...
30 Days out from Botswana with NKWE. Kudu, Kudu, Kudu (no, this is not a misprint) of course my son will be taking one of them. Lol
Also, Eland, Gemsbok, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra, Impala, Springbok.
Here is my short list after countless hours of research for outfitters that produce 55" - 60"+ Free Range Kudu on a consistent bases. I am sure there are others.
NKWE - Botswana
Tholo - Botswana
Alex McDonald - Mozambique
Mokore - Mozambique (Coutada 9)
Crusader - South Africa
I know there are many threads on travelling with suppressors out of USA, and the 5320.20 form is pretty simple to fill out.
What is question 10. State Department License No.? I can't find any information on this.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
I would manage expectations regarding 60" Kudu. This would be the equivalent of a 200" whitetail or a 400" elk. If you do enough research on this forum, the list of outfitters that have been producing 60" Kudu in resent years with photos and references to back it up is very small. Be very...
Yes, the experience is what it is about for me, not the kill. When I was younger, I guided for different ranches in South Texas and Mexico for whitetail. Baiting the roads and sitting in a blind does not compare to easing through the brush and rattling in a 160” deer to 30 yards on a cold...
Compact the dirt as you’re building the mound up (run tractor over it in 2’ lifts) or build mound twice as high as you would like it to be, to allow for settlement. And get grass on it asap to stop erosion.
