i will say after traveling with different cases i now stick with my pelican case. i use nikon scopes and love them. in the pelican case i have never had issues with my rifle holding zero. i have driven through the nevada and utah deserts and mountains with the case bouncing around the bed of...
I was thinking the same thing. My hard case I use for ammo is a bass pro hard case and I was just at bass pro this last weekend and the same case is on sale for $20. I bought 3 more just to have them. I could just “forget” the case when I leave
I listed some primers for trade online. I have about 15,000 large pistol magnum primers and needed small pistol. I had a guy email me offering to trade some. I had 4000 large pistol with me when I met up with him but he only had 1000 to trade me. I traded 1000 for 1000 and when he saw I had...
Kudu and eland top my list as well but the oryx has always been my favorite. If I hunt and can only take 1 animal to the taxidermist it would be the oryx. I don’t know what it is but they are so beautiful of an animal
Here’s my ammo box. I have 3 sets of foam for it. This setup will depend what I plan to add next to it. I really need to get better foam and get away from the pluck foam.
That is my ultimate dream. That is my number 1 dream animal. I know I could pay and pay and pay and hunt one in New Mexico but I want to do a real safari to hunt one
I’m thinking the 375 because I would love to hunt a kudu and feel more comfortable using that. I have taken my 375 out mule deer hunting when I lived in Las Vegas and it is so amazing with accuracy and lethality
I have been reading through a few different bullet choice threads on here getting ideas. I might go with the ttsx and get as many as I can so I can practice more
So another question would be if only taking one gun...... is the 30-06 better or would my 338 win mag be better. I shoot both just as well. I have a lot of 180gr and 200gr inter bonds from hornady that my rifle loves and are super accurate
without changing my ammo box I could take 100 rounds of 30-06 and 80 rounds of 375. Only issue will be weight. I have to load up more 375 ammo and see what it all weighs
I have been practicing off sticks a lot. I have about 20 steel targets set up around our property in Georgia and any time I go up there I take my 308 and 30-06 with me for practice. I do a lot of walking around the property and when I see a big orange dot I stop and take a shot. I always take...
I have a few different choices of bullets. Right now the majority of my 375 ammo is loaded with Barnes tsx 235 gr. My 30-06 I pretty much only use hornady 180gr SST but I also have a few other bullet choices and weights to play with if ever needed
The main reason I planned on bringing 2 was just in case something happened. My pelican case is set up for both rifles and has a spot for spare scopes for each rifle just in case. Being my first trip I don’t want something to go wrong and make it a bad trip.
I will have to weigh my current ammo case and see what it weighs when totally full but that would be 100 rounds of 30-06 and 80 rounds of 375. Might be well over 11 pounds at that point. I reload everything as well. I got lucky and stocked up on .30 cal bullets and .375 bullets and I still...
I didn’t think of that when thinking of how much ammo to bring. I have thought of that as an option to not having to transport firearms but i shoot my rifles so well it’s worth the time and paperwork to make sure I can shoot well
I also figure, worst case, my friend that is going with me will have his 308 and 338 and basically the same amount of ammo in his case. That doubles the amount of fun
That was my biggest thought. The fear of running out. Maybe by the time I go ammo will be readily available everywhere and both my calibers are fairly common so getting more shouldn’t be too impossible
That’s always the biggest question. The more I look at hunting packages the more I change my mind. My real dream is an oryx in SA. After that anything is a bonus.
That’s what I have been hearing. I was thinking as a space save I would go to a smaller local case and bring 2-3 boxes for each caliber. That should be more than enough. I also saw someone write an article somewhere about how they max out their weight allowed on ammo. Bringing upwards of 300...
It will be a couple years before I can plan a plains game trip to SA but I have been trying to gather information now. I have doesn’t a lot of reading in here about what to pack for clothes and gear and what rifles are key. What I can’t seem to find is how much ammo to bring. I know there are...
I have had my rock island armory 10mm 1911 for years. I have carried it in every hunt in North America I have been on. I have used it to take hogs in Florida and I have taken deer I Georgia with it. I now have a trijicon rmr mounted on top. It’s accurate, it’s reliable and I just carry a...
I mostly use a 6.8 spc AR for hunting hogs but have also used everything from a .223 to a 458 socom. For gators we use a 44 magnum bang stick since we can’t use firearms on gators in Florida.
Just wanted to introduce myself. I’m a southern Floridian. Grew up in the snow and got sick of it so I moved to the palm trees. Now I spend my time hunting and fishing in Florida and Georgia. Most of my hunting is gators and hogs. I’m planning to expand that list to South Africa in about 3...
