That thing is a beautiful rifle. I’m just curious but is the action gun metal gray finish or what is that and forgive me being ignorant, I love mausers too.

450/400 Nitro Express 3” or 458 Lott, prolly the Lott first as it’s a bolt gun, 400 Jefferey is a great cartridge and has been used on it all and before the 375 H&H it did it all. Load the 458 with lighter bullets and it’ll do it all too.

I understand for sure it’s a beautiful rifle tho I’ve become obsessed with big rifles tho I can dream on them for sure I do have a 458 Lott and a 375 Ruger plan to add some more
I love that thing some awesome wood and I just love a Mauser, if you ever decide to sell it let me know. I spoke to a smith today about Reboring work on rifles into 470 capstick but he told me in the future he will tool up to do .474-475 caliber but he isn’t ready for it now. He’d like to take a...
This is several years old but did the 470 Capstick project ever come together on the 1917? I’d be interested in what happened if like to possibly have one built sometime just trying to learn of it
Welcoming indeed, this is a great site to belong to. So much helpful information and very nice people. It’s awesome to see all the folks from Wyoming, a state that’s been an interest of mine for years, I might move to buffalo area within next few years.
Welcome to Africa Hunting
I’m debating if I should put a scope on my Lott it’s a cz 550 but I prefer a scope on most of my rifles honestly could get a lower magnified 1-5x Leupold or something, I can find decent Barnes 250-300 gr ttsx but nothing bigger except Hornady 350 gr. The 250 gr might shed velocity so much tho
Bob that was awesome shooting, I have a 300 Wby as well and that would probably be my battery I’d bring as well. That Lott has the fire power and I’d say that PH knew that tracking wasn’t gonna be an issue with the Lott and good hits. Im impressed with that wildebeest that tells me a lot of what...
6.5-300 wby is my favorite cartridge honestly. I heard about it actually being designed back in the day, this was some awesome history to read from that reload manual. I love cartridges and learning the history. I have a vanguard badlands in 6.5-300 and it’s a great rifle the cartridge is hot...
This is great as I was just inquiring yesterday how my 458 Lott would work for shooting plains game. I was looking at some Barnes 250 gr TSX or even 300gr. For shooting deer here in Missouri where I live shots can be out there a bit. Killed a buck at 230 yards this year, so I was wondering about...
yeah I would probably use Barnes TSX those wouldn’t blow apart but the energy would wane that’s for certain the heavy weight gives it the down range energy. Could stick to 400-500 gr bullets and shoot everything with it just need to learn the trajectory
Yeah that’s interesting to me I like the input. I guess for where I live my hunting now is whitetail deer but shits can be far or close. My furthest was this year at about 230 yards. I didn’t use my Lott but I’d like to use it. I think with some practice and maybe using lighter bullets for...
I have been reading through here and I am wanting to try my Lott with some lighter bullets for deer. Will Hornady FTX be too soft at Lott velocity or do they hold up well? I’m looking into using maybe 300 gr and I have found some Barnes 250 gr TSX that I think will work great and would make this...
Just wondering could a 303 be rebored to a 9.3x74r? I know of a guy located in Oregon that does Reboring jobs on rifles, thought to contact him to see if it could be done. I have spoken to him about using one of my 1917s for a rebore to 9.3x62 but I haven’t done it yet. Looks like that action...
I’ve wondered how well my 458 Lott would work for shooting stuff beyond 100 yards? Seems like it would do fine out there and the sight leafs graduate to 300. Also wondered what the range for a 450/400 NE3” is would that work on 200-250 yd shots ?
Good morning Gentlemen
I am wondering how hard it might be in the future, say, three to six months, how hard it might be for me to purchase a Ruger no1 in 450/400 NE 3” ?
I am curious as I will be looking for one to purchase and I am not wanting to pay $23-2500 for one. If anyone has one that...
This was interesting and encouraging. I used a 6.5 creedmoor this year and I harvested a nice buck. Biggest body and horn wise for me. I only had to shoot once thankfully but the shot was ideal. I was using Hornady 129 gr interlock whitetail factory ammo. The shot was probably 220-230 yards...
In the market for a 416 possibly but not sure on what I want, open to something like a 450/400 NE or 416 Remington mag possibly. Seeing what might turn up.
