Qatar was a PIA on my flight in April and I only had a bow, also was restricted to one checked bag, the second security screening in Doha was something I've never had to do anywhere else.

It doesnt seem like the risk to reward ratio is there to me.

I've never traveled with guns but have many trips to SA and Namibia with bow cases and luggage and all most every time they have been opened and inspected. I don't use TSA locks anymore because once out of the US other countries are not TSA and they will cut them off.

They counted my bow case as one bag, if I wanted a 2nd it would have been a $100, I packed my bow case full and just took a carry on.

My flight was also 4/9 and back 4/23. They never looked twice at carry ons or personal items.

Just got back from SA flying Qatar the only surprise is they only allow 1 checked bag unless you pay extra. Having flown Ba, SA, Emirates, and Delta internationally, Qatar was the only one with a one bag allowance.

I know of two different times where night vision monoculars were taken to SA with no problem just on carry ons and also on the return to the US
