Curious why cape buffalo have the same minimum caliber requirement as Rhino, Hippo and Elephant?

IMO-After being on multiple Cape Buffalo safaris, it makes total sense to have a min of 375, and most guys I know that have hunted them with a 375 almost unanimously comment that a 416 or 458 would have been nice. Could you do it with less?,,, of course if everything goes perfectly, but why...

Why not a Dangerous Game lever?

I knew Ed Stevenson as well, he was a great man. I learned a lot about life in the 5 weeks I spent with him, thinking it was 2005ish, can’t remember. At that time if I remember correctly I thought he was carrying a 95 in 375 scovill. I remember handling a 71 in 450 Alaskan that he had. There...

What is the future of the fine firearms market

Been working in the gun industry in the US for over 20 years and we all ask ourselves the same question. While clearly the younger generation is obsessed with tech stuff and the latest developments in calibers, there are more sport shooters now than ever before. There are more shooting events...

Questions about the African Carry and Others

My primary ph won’t allow African carry behind him. One of his friends got shot this way. He also requires no shell in the chamber and de-cocked on bolt rifles at the truck. I sling my rifle, hang it on my right (strong ) shoulder and commence walking. Never had an issue not being “fast”...

    375 Ruger vs 375 H&H

The shooting sports industry is desperate to keep coming out with something that people feel they need to buy. Without the guys stacking firearms up like cordwood the firearms industry would have been dead 30 years in the U.S. examples,..6.5 this and that, ruger short mags, Winchester short...

505 Gibbs vs 500 Jeffery. Thoughts on these heavy hitters? Alternatives?

I've had both, neither is a bad choice in a rifle built properly,...but thats the key, "built properly". They both need to weigh 10.5 lbs or more, on actions that accommodate the length of the 505, and an appropriate action for the stubby 550J. I stuck with the 500j on a short fat Granite...

    Leopard Optics

For what its worth, I would use a Swaro, or S&B, illuminated reticle variable power up to 10 or 12, with at least a 40-42 objective. Not a fan of Zeiss scopes,....their eye relief and the way the reticle feels when adjusting just doesn't seem right to me for that kind of money. I've had pretty...

I need boots for my first safari

.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

Boils down to knowing yourself and your capability. Sounds like like you're not really a big bore shooter, the 375 will likely be a more natural transition, and capable for sure if you can do your part. It takes a bit more determination with a lot of practice to really learn to shoot and be...
