    Good African Safari Shirt?

Permethrin and skin so soft bug repellant/sunscreen (works with flies and mosquitos). I where short sleeve polo cotton blend shirts with some stretch in the fabric if it's hot, more traditional long sleeve button up if its cooler and roll sleeves if warms up----but everything is treated with...

Benelli Lupo BE.S.T Walnut 300 Win Mag With Leupold VX5 HD CDS 3-15x44

These Benelli Lupos shoot like nothing I’ve ever seen in a factory rifle. I have a 30-06 and a 308 in this exact gun and both shoot 1/2” with a lot of different ammo.

    500/450 NE Holland and Holland?

RIA just sold a really nice one a week or so ago. It's a cool caliber,.,....I thought about bidding but I don't need another project. I did do a little leg work and dies would more than likely be available from that outfit in ohio, bertram still can order the brass,....it could be done.

    .470 NE Reloads and Fillers?

I see you fellas have put a lot of thought into this topic. I guess from my standpoint I don’t want to ruin the most expensive gun in my box lol. I would prefer to use the more modern powders like rl15 or h4350. We know for sure that they are more “stable” in just broad speaking terms. I...

.500 J Rhino bullets wetpack test

Rhino, Raven Rock, and the Bertram guy should all partner up and get some consolidated US distribution going. Rhino must be selling all he can make over there,.....if he came to the USA he would dominate the 375 bore and up rifle bullet market. By by Barnes, Hornady, North Fork.

    .470 NE Reloads and Fillers?

Why in wrights second edition does he rule out use of 3031 as not good for nitro cartridges? Based supposedly on one instance that he knew of personally where the chamber blew out the right side ?? Seems like there’s a lot of us using this powder in 470’s……any input is appreciated. My 470...

CANADA: Saskatchewan Black Bear Hunt May 2024

Ah, brings back a lot of memories, I went through bear madness, all my brother and I did all over Canada for 4 or 5 years back in the late 90's and early 2000's. Lost track of how many of those buggers we shot but between the two of us, it had to be somewhere around 15-20. Sitting in a stand...

Proper Dangerous Game Rifle followup when the client can't followup?

OK, .....I'm going to be the asshole here and say if you have those types of physical impairments or disabilities that prevent you from finishing the game should this scenario arise, you shouldn't be hunting dangerous game.

1 MOA accuracy less common than you think ?

It's kinda funny all these 1" guarantee blah blah, sub moa blah blah blah. Roy Weatherby was ahead of his time, yet another example of this, and his rifles were guaranteed to shoot 1.5" 3 shot groups in the 50's and 60's, tons of game was being killed with those rifles back then. The quality...

Buffalo - Tanzania Tastes on a South African Budget

I'm not an outfitter but my advice would be to go to Mozambique or Zimbabwe. Cost is not that much different than SA buffalo and its a true wild country safari. Maybe you've already been to these places? That being said, if your hearts are set on Tanzania, don't let a few thousand bucks stop...

Solid bullets for Buffalo? Yes or No?

As stated already, never hurts to have some solids with you, lots of reasons. I always make sure I have loads developed for whatever rifle I'm using, softs and solids same POI. Always have Iron sights regulated for same load that I'm using through the scope. .......We can start a whole other...

    416 Rigby and filler

I use 1/2 a kynoch wad to fill my 500 jeffery loads every time, a uniform powder column is very important. I have also used a similar technique on a 416 rigby load or two but the finished load for that rifle used enough powder to not need to. I like kynoch wads because they are uniform and no...

Ideal distance for a Cape Buffalo first shot..

I like 35 yards with a double or any big bore with express sights, closer the better. I've taken a buff with 500 jeff at 35yrds , it was the coolest experience yet. Somewhere around that distance I would guess keeps most guys that have worked with their rifle somewhat confident.

One final rodeo, bolt-action or double rifle for my last big bore thumper?

If the rifle is built right and in good working order, “finding the load isn’t as difficult as it may seem”. The human data resource on this sight alone will have you dialed in with a handful of range session. The obscure double calibers is what’s starting to get troublesome, does, brass, and...

One final rodeo, bolt-action or double rifle for my last big bore thumper?

Get a vintage English double rifle and buy it right. Can’t lose if prudent on price and English gun. IMO the modern doubles don’t really compare for the money…..the exception may be Heym……but you’ll spend 30-35k on a Heym to be able to compare to a 20-25k vintage English rifle. You can...

Major construction projects, being built with wood

Yeah, not so sure about this concept. Concrete and steel for me. All you have to do is own a house with Cedar siding and big wood decks in an area that's wet and has seasons and it doesn't take long to figure out the maintenance alone is ridiculous. Inside timber and wood trim, heck yea...

The Ideal African "Light Rifle", that is the Question?

These are my thoughts exactly, quoted from a post above: “What I can’t understand is bringing a 375 for dangerous game and a 30-06 for plains game. I’ve never shot a zebra with my 375 and thought “this thing is just too dead. Wish I had shot it with my 30-06”. And I’m sure as hell not carrying...

The Ideal African "Light Rifle", that is the Question?

I guess what I'm asking is ......if the average "light rifle" of tradition wood and metal configuration regardless of caliber weights around 9-10lbs, why not just carry a 375 or 404 (because they all weigh the same) all the time and shoot everything with it, if you encounter a big nasty, you...

The Ideal African "Light Rifle", that is the Question?

This is where my heads at. Difficult to get around it, a good 375, 404, 416 Rigby, built right isn't really more of a burden to carry than a 300 or 338 in an African style build (wood, sights, etc)

The Ideal African "Light Rifle", that is the Question?

Just looking for insight as to how other fellas view what they are carrying for a rifle in "wild Africa". I have an addiction to nice moderately priced custom rifles. But for the last 8-10 years it's been more or less an obsession for everything 375 and up. On the hand full of safaris I've...

There a more than one or two really good Mauser type actions, the one I have a lot of experience with is Granite Mountain Arms. I can't find anything wrong with them. And if you're lucky enough to have one of the first 100 from the company that will say Prescott AZ on the action you can be...

Do the 577 and 600 nitro really offer anything?

I have no desire to shoot anything to the level of recoil the 577 and 600 would have. My 500j at 90 or so ft lbs according to recoil calculator tops it off for me. That being said, to me the really big doubles like the aforementioned are simply beautiful, and look like a double should. Add to...
