    Handgun scopes

My Ultra Dot sights are their newer Gen 2, which I ordered with the 2 MOA dot. They allow for more precise aiming. The dot intensity is adjustable for the existing light conditions. And, if a battery were to fail, the replacement operation takes about 10 seconds. Have never had one fail, so far.

    Handgun scopes

I have gone to Ultra Dot red dot sights on my FA .454 Casull and my Ruger SRH .480 Ruger. These sights are bombproof on high-recoil big bores. I have gone thru many handgun scopes mounted on my .454, but no problems whatsoever with Ultra Dot.

    .22 Hornet legal in Namibia?

Okay, earlier I started a thread about use of the .22 Hornet in Africa. Yesterday, I was doing some research on firearms regs in Namibia. What I found is that there is no caliber restriction in the country (they recommend a minimum .284 cal.), but the minimum ME (muzzle energy) is stated at...

    The .22 Hornet in Africa?

Planning to return to Africa in 2020 to hunt the remaining members of the 'Tiny Ten' I have yet to get- Oribi, Red Duiker, Suni, and Dik-Dik. Will travel to Namibia for the Dik-Dik, and Natal Province or Mozambique for the remaining three. I plan to take along my very accurate CZ 527, .22...

    Gun Case Question about Locks

I have an aluminum gun case, with four latches, that has two rods that secure all four latch holes, and are locked with two padlocks through the rod ends at either end of the gun case. I have read that now, every lock hole has to be secured with a lock. With my case, every lock is secured with...

Best bullet type for Tiny Ten?

I am currently handloading Barnes 165 gr. TSX bullets, at a MV of 2750 fps- fairly sedate velocity, to be sure. I have a Leupold CDS scope on my '06, and can consistently ring a 3" gong at 300 yards. This rifle is crazy accurate with the TSX bullet. I have recently used it on fairly small...

Best bullet type for Tiny Ten?

Back to my original question- are FMJ bullets in loaded ammo legal to import into South Africa? I have read this on a couple of outfitters' websites, but can find nothing in regulations stating so.

Best bullet type for Tiny Ten?

I am going to SA next August, on an all-Tiny Ten antelope hunt. Hope to take 6 or 7 species on this hunt. I am taking my trusty .30-06 along, and plan to use Barnes 165 gr. TSX bullets, hopefully to minimize hide damage on these small animals. Had originally planned to use FMJ bullet ammo, but...

Help me decide on my first DG rifle

My choice has been the Ruger Hawkeye African, in .375 Ruger. I have restocked mine with a McMillan McWoody stock, which looks and handles great. I have used mine on Asian Water Buffalo and African Lion, with great results. I handload for mine, using Barnes TSX 270 gr. and TTSX 250 gr. bullets...

    .300 Weatherby help

The .300 Weatherby is a fantastic round for African plains game hunting! On my first safari, I took along 200 gr. Swift A-Frame bullet ammo, and it worked perfectly on everything, up to and including Hartmann's Mtn. Zebra. If I were to go back with this rifle, it would be with Barnes 165 gr. TSX...

Bullets for Lion in 375 Rum

I considered using the 250 gr. GMX factory loading in my .375 Ruger on a recent safari for plains game and lion, but decided against it because of so-so accuracy in my Ruger Hawkeye African rifle. Thank goodness for handloading, and a world of bullets available! My handloads of 250 gr. Barnes...

Solid or Partition Bullets for African Lion

Of the two, I would definitely choose the Nosler Partition. I recently took a Lion with my .375 Ruger, and a 250 gr. Barnes TTSX bullet. It did a lot of internal damage, and no bullet exit. MV is 2880 fps, and this bullet obviously expands quickly.

    375 H&H Vs 375 Ruger

I used my Ruger Hawkeye African in 375 ruger a few months ago in SA. With my handloads of Barnes TTSX 250 gr. bullets, it was deadly on everything from Springbok to Lion. MV is 2880 fps, and with a Leupold VX3 2.5-8x glass, an extremely versatile and accurate package. At 9 lbs. all up, it's no...

    Bullet selection

I have used the Barnes 165 gr. TSX, in both .30-06 and .300 Weatherby. Performance is predictable and effective. Most bullets have exited, but have never lost a head of game using this bullet. Highly recommend them!

Some questions on a plains game rifle

Just returned from a hunt in Africa, consisting of plains and dangerous game. I used my Ruger Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger, with the Barnes 250 gr. TTSX, on plains game, including Springbok, Sable, and Black Wildebeest, with great success. The Hawkeye comes with open sights, and I have a...

    Bow enough?

Your setup will work great. On my bow safari, I used 100 gr. Muzzy MX3 broadheads, which worked great. I have since been using the Muzzy Phantom heads, very stout and fly very well.

Question on bullets for 375 Ruger

I've been working up loads for my Ruger Hawkeye African 375 Ruger. So far, the most accurate loads have come with Barnes TSX bullets, both 270 gr. and 300 gr. My question is this- is it feasible to take just one load with the 270 gr. TSX, for buffalo and leopard? I can't think that 30 gr. of...

    Howdy from Colorado

I have been loading Barnes TSXes, both 270 and 300 gr, ahead of RL 15 powder. Accuracy has been excellent, especially with the 300 trainers, which have produced a couple of one- hole 100 yd. groups, and good velocity.

    Howdy from Colorado

Hi All, I'm new to this forum, but have been following it for awhile. Not new to Africa hunting- have been twice, once with rifle, once with bow. Planning a next trip for 2013, for leopard and buffalo. Breaking in a new Ruger Hawkeye African, in 375 Ruger, for the next trip. Great...
