City Lodge or Africa Sky

We use Africa Sky.

Both are great. My choice is always City Lodge because I don’t want to leave the airport at all, The rooms are fine nothing fancy but the buffet food and bar are great! I have stayed at the other plus Afton and both were fine but I will not stay at either again. I don’t leave the airport in case Murphys law appears like traffic, flat tire etc. just me
 
Neither is a bad choice, personally, I’ve always stayed at the Afton House, probably because they do a great job, Mr. X handled my paperwork, just became my routine.
 
Africa Sky has been my choice as well as most of my hunting companions. Will be there in June again.
 
Another vote for Gracy Travel and CitiLodge. As previously mentioned, you don’t have to leave the airport, clean room with hot showers. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. I’ve stayed there 5 times and will be back there in August.
 
I’ve used City Lodge, Africa Sky, and Afton House. The last two are pretty similar, whereas City Lodge is more like a traditional hotel.

I like city lodge if I have an early morning connecting flight somewhere else in Africa. It’s convenient to land, not leave the airport, check-in/out and still be at the airport in the morning. They also offer a great breakfast buffet.

Africa Sky and Afton are my choice if I’m not on a time crunch because my connecting flight is later in the day or I have a PH picking me up.
 
One more shout out for City Lodge, in 2021 after we tested positive for the big C for prior flight boarding tests City Lodge allowed us to "lock down" at their hotel instead of getting on the SA bus to no where. Rooms and all meals for 15 days at $100 per day. Outstanding save.

I liked the ideal of Africa Sky. I was concerned about arriving late and leaving the airport.

No problem with that. Their guy at airport is Gilbert and there are none better at their job. They watch the flights close. If it’s late or early he’ll still be waiting for you.
 
I spent the night at the Witwater last year when I landed in Joberg. Very nice place at a reasonable price. They picked up and delivered at Tambo.
 
I stayed at City Lodge in 2023 and would definitely stay there again. Reasonably priced, easy to get to as it is attached to airport, and good food. Good value for the price. Have not stay at Africa Sky.

City Lodge and Intercontinental are safer. Africa Sky had a major incident several years ago. Security was beefed up after that. But you still have the drive from the Airport to Africa Sky which was also a problem several years ago.

I have stayed at Africa Sky one time. Johan Calitz and Ivan Carter were at breakfast when I stayed there. Africa Sky will get your gun permit, pick up you up and store your gun if you wish to travel. I have not stayed at City Lodge (I know Gracy Travel likes to book City Lodge for hunters). I have stayed at the Intercontinental at the airport, the rooms are very nice and the food excellent.
 
What time does the Delta flight arrive in Johannesburg? I am heading up to vic falls for an Ele hunt and need to book a flight the next day up to zim? Just trying to get an idea of time line for the trip
 
No experience with City Lodge but have stayed at Africa Sky twice. I I highly recommend AS. Meet and greet at Tambo airport, help you get guns from SAPS. A quick ten minute drive to their facility. Nice meal. Clean comfortable room. If flying elsewhere, after a nice breakfast, off to the airport and they help you check in.

Does Africa Sky offer rifle permits, custom assistance and such ? If so, could they meet us at the airport at the plane and assist us through customs and get our rifles ? I would like to stay there sometime.

Based on your recommendation I’m going to stay at City Lodge this September rather than Afton House. I hope you’re feeling the pressure I’m putting on you! rofl

Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.
