Looking for info and price range for an elephant hunt in Zim for Management Bull (Non exportable). Price range would be helpful (including daily rate & observer rate) as this trip would be near (or possibly above) the Top of my budget. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time if the early estimated costs are out of my price range. I have followed Elephant hunting prices on this forum for a few years and know they vary greatly - cull hunts or some Management hunts seem like the best bet for an affordable hunt - size of Ivory is much less important then affordability. I also want to bring my Wife who is a Non Hunter and requires “Wifey things” ie: flush Toilet & Shower - the closer the Toilet the better and if we could hunt elephant NEXT to a bathroom = she would be thrilled ! I recently sold my .470 and have a .375 H&H if that is adequate (I know it’s Not ideal) otherwise I would need to use suitable Camp gun — I’m a Lefty but have operated RH Bolts….just prefer Not to. What I want to avoid is the PH having to put bullets into any elephant I shoot and realize that is often needed but if my using a .375 “increases that likelihood” then I would prefer a larger camp gun.
I appreciate any info that can be provided, not sure that I can swing this financially or Not but wanted to research before deciding. I could possibly go this year or next and think there are sometimes Short Notice opportunities that pop up at good prices and I would consider that.
I’m Especially interested in hearing from any Hunters that have done a similar trip as I described above (Wife/non hunter, etc.. where the “total experience & price” were factors as important as the Hunt itself). Thank you

What Rare Breed said is correct.
You have other options to consider given your potential price range but there’s probably two viable Countries
Zim as stated and Namibia Caprivi Strip… I did a management Bull hunt there last year. There are a several options and all pretty much next to the National Parks in Communal areas. Very good “Value”…
$1,000 a day and I think $8,500 TF (I did a Buffalo also, Hippo Management Bull, Red Lechwe etc)

One thing to really be clear about is what kind of hunt you want here… some of these in Zim are nighttime crop raiders etc vs traditional tracking hunt. Make sure you understand the type of hunt from outfitter
Good Luck

Incredible hunt with them in Zim where I got my elephant just last year
@Rare Breed - thanks for quick info. Are you also familiar with “Sango Dadiso”? Saw and read from their website. I think they operate a fairly new camp near Sango Wildlife Conservancy and do both Hunting & tourist—-Non hunting safaris….not sure how that works? Or if they only hunt on special Government cull/management elephant hunts.

There are a few sponsors on here offering ele hunts that you describe. I am sure one can offer what you are looking for. Last minute cancellations are a great chance to save if you can go short notice. I did the non exportable ele with Wayne @NYAMAZANA SAFARIS a few years ago. Lifetime memories and a bonus 50lber, we stayed in a tent but he gets permits close to camps I am sure. Be honest with what you want and Wayne will definitely be honest with what he can, cannot or will not be able to do.

Suggest giving him a DM.

My apologies I am not familiar with them

I will second Wayne tell him what you want and he will deliver. I hunted with him Nov. 2024 he is a great guy and runs a basic but clean camp. Also has some of the best prices out there.

@Uintaelkhunter - appreciate the feedback, I’m fine with a “basic” Camp but for my WIfe — need to book more of a “Luxury” Camp…otherwise she may Not enjoy the Safari as much as I want her too. This will be somewhat of a “compromise Hunt” —- a Good Hunt for Me and a Great Vacation for her — I want her to see & enjoy Africa, be as comfortable as in any 5 Star Hotel AND have her by my side for an Elephant hunt - that is more important to Me then shooting a Trophy Bull. I’ve hunted Africa before and always wanted to return …But Not without my Wife and I don’t want her to have to tough-it-out just to accommodate Me.

You should contact @DALTON & YORK SAFARIS . They have some good quota that will be exactly what you are looking for at a good price.
The .375 is fine but will likely guarantee that follow-up shots will be required.

@Philip Glass I have spoken to Two PHs so far and expressed my concern but both reassured me the .375 H&H was fine (apparently used more often then I thought) as long as my shot placement is good….lots more research to do and appreciate the helpful posts received so far.

Wayne is a good guy, no disrespect at all but you need to let him know if you do not want to do a night hunt. While he has taken some great bulls at night and of course perfectly legal to do so, it is just not for me, I want to track them during the day, again no disrespect intended at all!!!!!

Yes Wayne does night hunts but if you tell him you need a nicer camp and day only hunt he will defiantly accommodate and only hunt daytime.
I shot my bull at about 3pm and we hunted days. I shot my bull on day 5 believe. We hunted early morning to sundown every day.
I think people give him a bad rap because he hunts a few night hunts for crop raiders. But I’m sure if you ask him most his elephant are shot in the daytime and if that is the way you want to hunt he will hunt that way only. Also his camp is tent with flush toilets and bucket showers but he can book a nice camp if needed. He actually has a very nice camp for photo safaris he just does not hunt from it.

With Wayne we only hunted daylight for ele, we did night hunt also but for the night critters, no ele. He will do what you ask. I do suggest you state (with whoever you book with) you are willing to sacrifice a morning/afternoon hunting so that you can be immersed in the cutting up and distribution of the protein to all who need it. For me that portion was an unexpected emotional and amazing experience, as was eating ele strips draped and cooked over mopane fires with the locals.

No disrespect at all . Although I do hunt day and night at times to maximize success most of the elephants taken are in the day .
