Hi there! I am interested in any Sako 85 rifles for sale. I have a spot in my collections for most any caliber from .308 up to big bore cartridges. No synthetic stocks please. Send me a PM with what you have. Thanks!!

Word of advice...if you buy an 06 length, check Ejection with a scope on.
I have bavarian Sako 85, 30-06, no issues. But I have to say: I have medium height optilock scope rings (sako originals).

Question remains for low height scope rings? Do they by any chance cause such problems? (I dont know)

Bottom line: many times mentioned ejection issues on Sako most often was claimed for magnum length calibers. This is the first time I hear for 30-06 (medium action) lenght possible problems.

In any case, height of rings when Sako 85 ejection problems was mentioned was not defined.
I am still baffled by this Sako 85 phenomenon...

On the Sako 85, the ejection problem is due to the machining of the extractor slot. The amount of tension from the extractor when it hits the ejector bar defines the trajectory or the case. Too loose and it falls back into the magazine well or flips up and hits a low mounted scope.

They used a 308 sized extractor.
Rim thickness on an 06 is thinner so as the bolts being drawn rearwards the empty is being angled premature and when ejected will attempt an upward angle striking the underside of a scope or windage turret.
Beretta declined any fix and sako produced a dual ejector as a fix.

I replaced both my .30-06 and 9.3x62 M85 extractors with these Lumley extractors on the recommendation of someone else with experience. Made a world of difference.

Any ejections issues after the install?
You can tell by looking at the mouth of spent brass that some still catch the windage turret on my scope, but it gets the brass clear every time. And I run my scope as low to the barrel as I can get them without touching.

I have a 85 Hunter in 6.5x55 if your interested in something smaller than a 308

any interest in a Sako Safari IV in 338 Win Mag, or another Sako Safari IV in 375 Win Mag .. ?

I own over a dozen 85's, I've only had ejection issues with my 9.3x66. When I say issues, I mean that it dents cases, never had a jam.

$3,500 w/o scope

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
