The .35 Whelen Pistol

To my mind, the 35 Remington or maybe 358 Win would be best in a short barrel. I’ve shot a few deer over the years with a 14” TC Contender using 200 GT bullets in a 35 Remington, and it works very well. But ammo is hard to find/expensive these days. Also, those thin jacketed 357 bullets will be like bomb going off when driven at high velocities.

How about a 9.3x62? You could load the 95gr PPU hollowpoints made for 9x18 mak (.365 diameter). Grafs has them for $17/100. I bet you could get them screaming out of there. I bought some to try in my 9.3x74R for varmints when I'm out bird hunting with the drilling.
That's a thought. A lot of potential there. Interesting concept and I enjoy how you stayed within the .30-06 wheelhouse on brass. Super cool idea.

Well you've discovered what effect I'm looking for.

QL says 3100-3550 fps (depending on 10 or 15" barrel) with a 9.3 shooting 95 grainers with a case full of 4227 at MAP. I don't know how much they could take before they come apart mid air though.

Might have to stick to the .357/358 caliber for tougher jacket/bonded bullets, or if you want something really unique a .40-06/400 Whelen, then you can shoot 41 rem mag bullets

How does QL compare the .35 to the 9.3? I'd be curious to see what a 125 .357 xtp would do in a .35 W or even an AI. I'm forming the cases out of 06 brass either way...

Looks like around 2700-3150 with a 125 out of the 35 whelen pistol. Again something like RL-7 or 4198. Hornady seems pretty technical, they might be able to tell you the max velocity or RPM the bullet will stay together.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig

Do you still have the Ruger 9.3x62?
