Hunted
Zambia, Tanzania, USA, Mexico, Europe, Middle East, Australia,
When I was a very young boy, just as I was learning to read, I also learned of Africa and of the men that wandered that continent in the early days.

As my knowledge grew, the group that interested me most were the ivory hunters with names like Sutherland, Pearson, Banks, and Anderson. These men lived a life that called to me, even at that tender age, a life of great hardship but also of great freedom. I thought that if I searched hard enough for long enough that I might just get to touch what they held and indeed I suppose I have, to some degree.

With a wide range of personalities, one thing that was a common trait of the majority was their taste in armament. The men I admired most carried .577 Nitro rifles.

Fast forward more than thirty years since those little fingers turned those pages and I'm now privileged enough call one my own. I've owned a couple other doubles and used many more but I feel this one is the first that is truly mine, built for me, the way I want it.

It took 32 months from order to delivery but in the end, it was more than worth it. I named her after the famous right hand of the only undefeated Heavyweight Champion in boxing history, Rocky Marciano. Without further ado, I'm proud to introduce you all to "Suzie Q".

She's a new Heym 89b. The details are as follows.

.577 Nitro Express 3"
25 3/4" barrels
Case colors w/ boarder scroll engraving
14 3/4" lop to front trigger
Gold "S" safe
One standing and 3 folding rear sight 35-150
Tear drops
13.2 lbs loaded

P.s. now still only two weeks old, I think I have her shooting the way she should and she has already taken several head of game. The targets below are at 40 yards.

I just returned from the SCI convention in Nashville and looked hard at all the custom made doubles. Money well spent for a beautiful, functional work of art. Have fun hunting with that!

Thank you. I wasn't able to make it to the shows this year but I'm sure there was plenty to feast your eyes on. It's been great having b this rifle so far and she preforms great in the field. Soon she'll be on the tracks of elephant and buffalo as she should be.

Congrats on a custom 577 build. It looks like recoil is in the 120 ft lb range. How is it to shoot? Looks like you have the loads sorted out with good regulation.

Thank you, sir. It's been a long time coming.

In regards to the recoil, this rifle fits me perfectly which hepls a tremendous amount. When hunting, it is only as noticeable as when one uses any other large caliber. When shooting off-hand at the range, it's much akin to a heavy load in a 10ga. However, as I have been shooting off of a standing bench while shooting for groups and to find the regulating load... it's been truly punishing. I'm just about done with that part of the process and I'm glad for that.

Thank you again.

Beautiful rifle, might it be the first Heym 89B in .577 Nitro Express? I have read several posts on the forum from people looking forward to see pictures of that model in that particular chambering.

I feel like I’m being pranked lol Am I the only one that can’t see anything from the OP but the title?
Who is “Suzie Q”, what is “Suzie Q”, inquiring minds want to know

I just assumed that was the name he gave the rifle? :giggle:

"Suzie Q" is also the title of a great song by Creadence Clearwather Revival, a masterpiece of classic Rock - my favourite group by the way...
Perfectly right for a beloved gun...
I used this name for a 1911 decades back.

Congrats for the great SxS, and thank you for sharing nice pics! Awesome!

Thank you, sir. It's certainly not the first as I know of at least 3 others but I would guess that the number is still in the single digits.

Yes sir, I know the song well. Oddly enough, my great grandmother owned a restaurant by the same name. Thank you for the kind words.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
