Yes, for sure you are correct, it would be too powerful for deer species in Europe..you can not download for the 8x68S , it is counter productive to what it is being designed for..to counter the .300 H&H Magnum as well as the .375 H&H Magnum in German occupied African countries like Namibia...it was used to hunt elephant, rhinoceros, hippo , giraffe , eland buffalo in the Namibian.Botswana regions of Africa .
Yes, it is certainly the best magnum case design to headspace on the shoulder , as well as without the belt ...it is a single designed case only for the 8x68S and 6.5x68S calibers.
There is not another case you can fire form to fit in the 8x68S chamber.
The only caliber known to be loaded and use of hot loads and heavy bullets for deep penetration.That is and was not used as a military caliber like the Lapua Magnum .338 caliber .

I am building a 8X68S right now with a 24” barrel and it should do pretty much anything the .300 Weatherby would do. I have 3, 300 Weatherby’s and have used them on groundhogs to Alaskan Moose - it is a great round. I would feel comfortable doing anything with the 8X68S that I have done with the Weatherby and out to practical (for me) shooting distances - which I limit to around 400 yards the difference would never be felt by the target. They make some good 8mm bullets.

Good luck with your builds, here’s some pictures of the feed work done on one of the original rifles, a 1942 August Schüler. The rails are opened, ramp is contoured and blended, rear bridge is milled back, the back end of mag box is completely cut out and widened appropriately, follower face widened etc.

Excellent work, I milled away the stripper clip part as well. I am building a new magazine box, did blend the ramp as well and will polish it ..I did blue print the lugs , contact service engage 100%, There is still work to be done but I will get there..my ain is an OAL 91mm to compensate for the reduced water capacity of the case due to the thick RWS brass and since it is a caliber that can be run on hot loads it will compliment this procedure..

My 8x68S barrel is 26"inch barrel, 1:10 twist 5xgrooves

Photos of the action with the bolt open. I have not been able to take better photos. Sorry.

Looking at the stock I can not see much design flaws on it, if the length of the stock is perfect for you , it will be a functional stock to shoot with. The first thing I will replace on the stock is the recoil pad, get yourself a good thick recoil pad.

If you have access to basic wood work tools like chisels, files , wood rasps do some design changes to the cheek-piece , work it down to a shadow line duplicating the African dangerous game caliber profile with the double shadow line ..I will send you a great piece of Black Ivory and Buffalo boss material to replace the grip cap with that white spacer and add a front piece of African Black Ivory wood tip to the stock..that will do the trick..there are coming visiting hunters to South Africa this hunting season, will ask members to take these items to the USA and mail them to you.
