I have gone through your thought process with the 300g TSX , 270g TSX and 250g TTSX. I have concluded that the 300g TSX works so well and holds onto velocity so much better than the lighter bullets that I would stick with it exclusively. Last year I shot kudu cow, zebra and impala with the 250g...
I have a little buffalo experience having shot three so far. None presented a broadside shot and all were either frontal (1) or quartering towards me where I had to shoot at the shoulder joint or right next to it to penetrate the thoracic cavity in an appropriate place. If you get a broadside...
Looks like you have an interesting project going on. I’m not an expert by any means but I have shot a good number of animals, some of which were dangerous game including buffalo. Are you happy that the 400 grain bullet will be stable in flight and after impact? It is certain to be a long thin...
Recently back from Namibia where I shot a buffalo bull, a hippo and a giraffe all for management purposes. The buffalo and the giraffe were shot using my 458 Lott and 450 grain Barnes TSX and the hippo was shot using the 300 grain TSX from my .375. Expansion was excellent on all recovered...
I’m going to replace the Leupold mounts on the 458 Lott for sure. The .375 that I own remains very accurate so I may leave that for now until I have tested the 458 a bit more.
Are those the ones with the cylindrical posts and the cam locks? If so I have them on my .375 and 458 Lott. The .375 seem ok but the cam locks on the Lott may have deformed under recoil hence the search for something more robust!
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen.
We have just finished a very enjoyable and successful safari with Jamy Traut Safaris in Namibia and took a variety of dangerous and plains game. We did encounter an issue with one of the groups .375 Mauser rifles with an inability to maintain zero...
On the way to Caprivi we had 3 flights and ammunition was weighed on each leg. I specified that I had 4.2kg of ammunition but the overall weight including small Peli case was 5.5kg. No issues raised by the check in staff
Great question…. As you know I shot one in a straight frontal position with a .375 and 300g TSX. Its legs folded under it and we paid the insurance. I would do it again if I were steady enough within limited range …. So my answer is D
All of this information is interesting. @Kevin Peacocke, I heard the story of the last buff via Glen and @Lancaster ....very exciting and I'm so pleased everyone got out of the situation uninjured.
I note that a lot of the shots were taken with the DGX bullets which have a bit of a chequered...
