All my rifle hunting involves my Viper flex quad sticks. So much better than two or three legged supports after a modicum of acclimatisation. I would never go back to a bipod or tripod.
Welcome on board Ron. I have very much enjoyed your books, as I am certain have many others on here. Having your vast experience and knowledge on the forum will be most valuable to us all.
On DG hunts I have 5 in the rifle, 10 on my belt and an extra 5 in a pocket ammo wallet. I should give the tracker an extra box really but I never have so far.
Surely Akila don’t make the rifle and the barrel will remain stamped as a Blaser. I would just direct them to the appropriate engraving. The other tip I have is if you are flying into JNB to get your import permits arranged by Africa Sky. Their man in the airport seemed to have a way to make...
In my opinion neglect of the barrel wears out more barrels than overuse. As an example I bought a Blaser R8 recently with a reported low shot count. The 30/06 barrel was scoped and found to be heavily pitted as a consequence of powder residue and a slightly moist environment combining. The...
I have looked at the greater Kruger area a few times but have some concerns that the animals may be habituated to seeing man to some degree or another. This is in comparison to the Zambezi valley. Is there any truth in this??
This is true but I am of the opinion that I see less craziness and more reliable straight line penetration and reliable expansion with the TSX and TTSX than many others I have tried.
I have put many hundreds of deer on the hook with the TTSX bullets, mainly the 130g in an .308W annd the 120g in an 7mm RM. I have shot all bar one of my African game with them. Whilst the non Barnes bullet I used this year comes highly regarded, I wish I had chosen a Barnes 500g TSX for my...
Eight animals in Africa including two buffalo. Only one of the buffalo needed several shots with a .458 Lott despite a first shot through one humerus and both lungs. After a 15 minute pause before starting to track with a dog, it was recovered within about 30 minutes of the first shot...
Congratulations on the first Scottish stag. Stalking in the highlands is a truly memorable experience.
Next time you go perhaps drop your bullet weight to 140 grain. Hill stags are not massive creatures and the extra velocity can be useful. 140 grain bullets from a .275 Rigby is a classic...
I had the same issue with .458 Lott rounds. I thought it was me having made an error with the neck expander die or perhaps with the crimp die. I set the loose ones aside for practice.
