I've read that the .270win is a marginal calibre for larger plains game. Has the development of lead free ammunition made it a more viable option?

If possible, I would definitely take my own rifle. I used a loan rifle once, and the trigger pull was way too heavy for me....and not conducive to accuracy until I put a lot of roads through it at the range.

I'd also recommend booking a table at Simpsons on the Strand; the roast beef is excellent.

You have some great trophies to remind you of your safari. I also use a 6.5x55; I'm tempted to take it to Africa having seen the results you achieved with your swede.
