Sad News another London Gunshop Business to close

London is a beautiful city with a lot of history. The British Museum, the Natural History Museum and the Imperial War Museum are amazing. Great restaurants, great people. I have been many, many times for my work and I always love it there.

Why you dont want to hunt elephant..?

I like Stones because of the beautiful country they live in. I have hunted the Cassier Mountains and the Spatsizi Plateau in BC. It is truly beautiful country. I like the remoteness of it. Wall tents, float planes, horses, northern lights at night. Great fishing. Super fun. Africa, it’s all...

Why you dont want to hunt elephant..?

I feel like this is the answer. I hunt a lot of different species, but there are many others that I just have no interest in. I hunt in Africa for fun with friends. We enjoy each other’s company and just have a relaxing time chasing plains game. The pinnacle of hunting is probably different...

    Youth Rifle

My daughter who is 5’3” and weighs about 100lbs uses a Winchester model 70 Featherweight Compact in 6.5 Creedmoor. I know folks have an issue with the Creedmoor but she needed something with very low recoil and a little bigger than the .243 she was shooting. She has killed several nice deer...

Should you EVER pay a taxidermist anything in advance?

I pay both my both U.S. and RSA taxidermist 100% up front. I trust them and the mounts seem to come much faster.

    The pleasure of fine things

I collect something pretty specific but very finely crafted; WWII era military issue Hamilton pocket watches. In my estimation some of the finest American made instruments ever made. A great example is this Hamilton 3992B, there were 2400 of them made between 1942 and 1945. 2000 went to the...

Favourite quotes - Here's mine, Quite a long list. What's yours?

A few Aldo Leopold quotes: “I am glad I will not be young in a future without wilderness” “There are some who can live without wild things and some who cannot” “We all strive for safety, prosperity, comfort, long life and dullness” “Ethical behavior is doing the right thing when no one else...

    Planning for my Trip

Comparing taxidermy costs RSA vs US. Costs are getting closer. My godson came on the 2024 hunt with me. He chose to have his animals dipped and packed and shipped here vs having them mounted in RSA like I did. That way he can space out the cost of having his mounts done and do them as he can...

    Planning for my Trip

I hunted South Africa in May 2024, just picked up my mounts at SFO at the end of August. I had a Sable, Lechwe, Tsessebe and an Eland mounted, all shoulder mounts. The taxidermist charged me $4070 USD, the shipping via Delta cost me $4056 USD all in. That includes shipping, USDA fees, US FWS...

What have you actually had stolen getting to, coming from or on safari?

My buddy had all of his optics and camera gear disappear at a Paris connection years ago before there were any direct flights. We used to go through Amsterdam mostly, but Paris or Heathrow once in awhile. Now we just take direct flights.

Try and convince me the 243 is actually useful

My daughter, who is 5’3”, 98lbs on a good day likes her Wby Camilla in .243 shooting 85gr TSX at 3200ft per second and has killed several pigs and deer, all with one shot. In Africa next year she will be shooting a Tikka T3x Compact in 7mm-08.
