Is this typical of the US?

What you experienced was very typical of the Rocky Mountain states (except urban Colorado), the mid-western states, and the South Eastern states. Afrikaaners would fit in almost perfectly with the people in the SE USA.

New double coming out but not what you think

Your absolutely right. Nothing fancy. Just plain, straight walnut. Hardly anyone will spend "big money," on this type of DR, but many guys would like to own one. Just get them regulated on a common factory load (Remington .44 Mag - 240g JSP) and call it a day.

New double coming out but not what you think

I think a modest powered big-bore DR would be preferable to a small bore DR because of the range. IMHO, a small bore shines at distance. A larger bore shines at close range. (.41 Rem Mag, .44 Rem Mag, .45 Long Colt, .45/70 Government would sell like hotcakes, if the price was right...

New double coming out but not what you think

If you have enough rifles, the Mrs. never knows what's coming or going, because something is always coming or going. It's like a shell game x 20!

Is this typical of the US?

When polled, I don't own any... (There is no gun registration in Georgia)

Is this typical of the US?

IME - red = friendly, kind, and helpful. (And, not just to like-minded people)

Is this typical of the US?

I, literally, don't know an adult in Georgia who doesn't own at least one gun. I have a rifle ready for my 8 month old grand daughter!

Gold Lettering / serial numbers - gaudy or nice?

Your's is very tasteful. I was expecting gaudy, but I would, very much, consider something similar for some of my rifles.

The “Three Days Rule” for outfitters, guides, PH’s

I've been trying to book a hunt with N.A. Outfitters for a sheep or goat hunt this fall. I'm only 2 for 5 on getting return phone calls.

First Safari - What would you do different?

Oh, I get it completely. I'm actually "wired" the same way, but most folks with wife, kids, elderly parents, etc. find a great deal of comfort in being connected to home, if a situation arises.

    Snakes again

The shot in enclosed in a plastic "capsule," so I don't think it would touch the rifling, but I'm not sure

First Safari - What would you do different?

I think a first safari to South Africa for PG is the correct approach. In some countries, you have to get permits in advance and might not even see the animal for which you have a permit. (It's happened to me) On most South African safaris, the landowner owns the game, so you can, usually...

    Snakes again

I use CCI shotshells in .38/.357 - works great. I had to put down a rabid fox a couple of years ago with them, because that was all I had. It took two shots, but they worked at very close range (I stayed inside the car). I was thinking about getting some shot "capsules" and loading them...

First Safari - What would you do different?

My first was "won" at an auction at an Atlanta SCI fundraising dinner. (A PG hunt to Limpopo, SA) I "lucked-out" and had a fabulous time. In fact I can say, without a doubt that it was the best trip I had ever been own at the time. My best friend and I "won" the hunt for $750. It...
