Good day Randy, as Mr. Peacocke has said, a very interesting question indeed! I shoot both a 375 H&H and a 9.3X62. Love them both. 9.3X62 for buffalo? I would take the shot with complete confidence. I respect Dr. Robertson's experience and recommendations. I also know several clients and PH's...
I stand corrected sir. The North Fork bullet I wanted to suggest is in fact the SS bullet, not the Percussion Point. You are very correct in that the North Fork PP does expand much faster than the SS and North Fork recommends the PP for use on Lion and Leopard.
Personally my first choice would be the Swift A-Frames followed by the North Fork Protected Point. The Federal TBBC's are great bullets also. I would also look at the Woodleigh bonded softs as they are now available in the US and have a great reputation for holding together. As good a bullet as...
Interesting thread indeed. Sometimes it's not a case of case capacity but efficiency of the combustion chamber and application of modern powders. Bob's 35 Whelen, a friends 375 Whelen and my 338-06 are good examples. My 338-06 with bullets up to 250grn are right up there with the Win Mag or just...
That is an outstanding rifle!! Yes on occasion Ruger does offer one off rifles. I have a Ruger M77R (tang safety) in .358 Winchester. Ruger never cataloged that rifle and less than 1000 were made. After that run, they did produce a short run of M77RS rifles. Sadly, the 358 was never popular (due...
Hunted this bull for 3 years. Broke both horns fighting. He couldn't protect himself any longer and I provided a clean end. As an old warrior he will have a place of honor and a special trophy to me.
the 338-06 is a great choice! I tend to use heavier bullets and a 230grn Oryx at 2640fps yields just under 3700fpe! Everything I harvested in Namibia last year was DRT. A good friend uses a 338-06 also and took a 9ft + Alaskan bear. The bullet penetrated over 5ft of bear and he only went 30...
Without a doubt, take the 35 Whelen. That extra frontal area of the bullet does make a difference. I've used 35 caliber bullets in Namibia with excellent results and in 3 weeks will do so again. Enjoy your hunt.
Good day. The work was done by a close friend and hunting companion. He works by appointment only. Send me your contact info and where you're located and I'll run it by him. He does great work.
Interesting thread here. Being a die hard fan of the 358 Winchester I'll throw my 2 cents in here. My rifle really likes 225grn bullets. I've chronographed them at 2520fps from a 22in. barrel using W748. No pressure signs and 1 finger bolt lift and extraction. Groups have been 3/4in. Handloading...
