What trophy are you most proud of?

My Eland. I was speechless when I walked up to it. When I was finally able to speak I looked at my PH and said "What have you done?"

    Texas Nilgai - Rifle choices

I used 300 PRC with custom loaded Barnes 190 LRX. I would recommend 300 WM and up if at all possible. They are a big tough animal. They are being killed with smaller calibers no doubt but that does not make them the right choice.

    Binos for Africa

Only been to Africa once but I hunt a lot and have had different experiences. In Africa glassing for game at elevation looking for game I found some animals before the PH and tracker. It was vast. No way I am leaning up against a truck watching them glass. I have found goats in Hawaii, Nilgai in...

    How much Ammo is “Enough”?

I always want minimum 2 year supply of every caliber. I was never quite there with 9mm when I was shooting a couple of times a week but once a month now I am fine. I have a lifetime supply of 22LR and 17HMR, and at least 5 years of 45ACP, 5.56, 6.5 Creed, and 300 PRC. As I have recently added a...

Does the price of ammo impact your choice of a rifle caliber

For my first DG rifle, not that long ago, I looked at availability and price for 375 Rug, 375 H&H, 404 Jeff, 416 Rigby, and 416 Rem. After being VERY confident 375 H&H was enough for what I wanted to do (thanks to this site) I went with 375 H&H for availability, price, and required performance...

    Colt 1911, market scouting

Love my Wilsons. If I did not have Wilson it would be Les Baer. I really, really need to get a Les Baer.

    Let's See Some Hunting Knives

I did not get the Fox River until I used one. It is probably my all time favorite hunting knife and I have it in several sizes, steels, and handles.

    Big bore Shooting range

In my experience the biggest threat to hardened steel is velocity, not weight. I will not shoot a damaged steel plate. Those are the ones that are going to send something back at you.

What’s the One Piece of Hunting Gear You Can’t Live Without?

Tripod Virtually unheard of when I was growing up. I only saw bipods of varying lengths. I use a tripod in the blind and out, sitting, kneeling, and standing. Light, portable, and steady enough. The single biggest improvement in my hunting success has been cellular trail cameras. I have a...

    Fishing Addiction Group

Constantly trying different things I finally took the plunge into BFS fishing. I am glad I did! I bought a Curado BFS reel and rod and spooled it with 4lb Daiwa Samurai Fluoro. I was throwing 6th Sense 1/8 Pecos and tearing up the 1/2lb to 2lb bass. I was shocked at how far it was casting with...

A thorough conversation with Swarovski - Conclusion: Rookhawk knows nothing and is wrong about everything

I was a little bit bummed about Swaro going 34mm and have been waiting on a Zeiss. I thought I might have a look around online today, and to my surprise, a major retailer had a Z8i 1-8x 30mm in stock and on sale. I scooped it up and waited on a shipping confirmation to come here and post a link...

    Pelican Air

Been flying 1-2 times a month with my Air for 3 years now. As above, I use zippered bags as needed.
