975 grain arrow, fixed 2 blade broadhead from a Mathews Monster Safari bow. Stalk one of these to less than 30 yards without a gun if you want to feel a rush.
I got some Sig Sauer Zulu6 20x42. They are amazing. 20x power and with the image stabilizer, I can hold them in one hand while holding my bow in the other and they are rock steady. They weigh about the same my smaller 10 power binos.
20 yards is close enough. Seriously though, 10 yards might be too close. The arrow still needs to stabilize in its flight to maximize penetration so I want to have it no longer wobbling from the acceleration. I suppose I should take some high frame rate video of the arrows when I am practicing...
If you want to shoot the head, you better be coming down from a high angle or you certainly will get a glancing shot. I wouldn't want to shoot the head and crack that wonderful skull.
Into Lusaka. Just looked at the flight. $1,385 round trip from LAX. Overnight each way in Doha. Fly out on July 8th, arriving the 10th. Return on the 21st. Might grab a steak in Doha with you if that works out.
Yes, Steve shot them in the lungs. That is heavily the way I am leaning towards. The main deal is you have to miss the heart or they might die before they get back out of the water and you can lose them.
Hunting with Steve Rufus at Shamwari Safaris. I don't have my flights booked yet, but...

Not taking a rifle. If I have to do a follow up with a rifle, it won't count. Only need for a rifle is just to stop a charge. This will be done with a bow only.
I know there are several bow hunters here who have wanted to get their elephant with a bow. Sadly, it hasn't been allowed in South Africa, and Namibia for a long time and more recently Botswana and Zimbabwe took them off the list for bow hunters. Most recently, I heard Mozambique has also...
Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?
I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Sorry, I didn’t do a report. Had harvest at work shortly after coming back and been busy since.
I got my caribou on day one with a 72 yard bow shot. Caribou was down in less than 8 seconds from impact. One arrow.
Musk ox went down on day 2 from I believe 34 yards. Also one arrow. I have no...
