I brought a 338 federal to Africa for the larger species. Shot a Nyala in the shoulder, it was a through and through. He took three steps sidways and dropped over dead. The 338 federal has a lot more power than one would expect.
All my 7x57s except for one are Ackley Improved so my load data is way too hot for the average 7x57. I do use RL17 in all of my loads, I get about 200fps more using the RL 17 over IMR 4350 or Varget.

Over the past thirty plus years all of my deer hunting has been with my Ruger No.1 in 7x57. I've gone through twenty rifles over that time period but always went back to my 7x57. Deer Elk Antilope, all have been taken with this rifle.
