Let’s be honest….accuracy off the sticks

I shoot fair off the sticks until I have a 450 lb Nilgai looking at me from 150 yards. Then I am able to achieve a clean miss. I've done this on both Nilgai hunts. No blood or hair, thank goodness. Second oppurtunity resulted in some tasty meat on both hunts.

    Scope Reliability

Might want to check out Tract Optics. Their Toric 1-8 UHC looks like it could be a DG scope. Don't know about everyone else but my toric 2-10 has excellent glass and has held up well with everything from 338-06 to 280 AI. Don't have any big boomers yet but will have a 9.3x62 when my rebarrel...

    Scope Reliability

When I worked at a sporting goods store several years ago we would take a Nightforce and bang it on the counter. The counter was dented. I dropped a rifle with a 30 mm Burris Euro 3-9 from a metal ladder stand, about 15 feet. Scope and rifle showed scratches and dents. Took it to the range and...

    Elk Rifle

First, go! You may never have the time or money, but you will never regret going. As far as rifles, I witnessed my son take his first elk at 315 yards with his 25-06 loaded with 120 NP's. Bullet exited and we watched the elk fall. Of course bullet placement is everything, I've helped trail a...

"Stolen Valor" - in the hunting field/industry

Since that incident I've shot many bucks and have no regrets about my decision. It would be different for a kid. I'd have to make sure the world knew about the creep next door but I'm sure there were lessons learned.

"Stolen Valor" - in the hunting field/industry

My father-in-law was ticked off that I let him claim it but I hope I did the right thing.

"Stolen Valor" - in the hunting field/industry

Hunting opening week in West Virginia with my in-laws I was sidehilling a ridge when a nice 8 point appeared above me heading back the way I had come. I put 3 shots into his ribcage with my trusty 760 pump 30-06. At the last shot I thought I heard a simultaneous report and he rolled down the...

    Elk Rifle

It's real close to perfect. I personally think mine gave me a flinch that affected my shooting. went to a 6.5 PRC Mauser M18 then a Christensen in same caliber. Shot the 127 Barnes LRX. Never recovered a either bullet shot through the meat of both shoulders.

    Elk Rifle

Copy that. Had that gun for my perfect elk rifle. Light weight with Leupold 2.5x8 VX-3. Getting scoped gets old.

    Howdy from SC

Depends on what rifle I have at the time. Started with a Remington 760 30-06. I remember when my buddies with iron sight 35 Remingtons bet me I couldn't hit the 1 inch bull at 100 and kept laughing until we walked up and there I was in the black! 25-06, 6.5x55, 300 Win, 7 mm Wby, 45-70, 338 WM...

    Howdy from SC

I absolutely love playing with loads to get it right. One of the joys of retirement. also love examine recovered bullets for weight retention, expansion and penetration.

    Allure of the Ruger No1

Thanks for the info. Might be best to do a rebarrel with a heavier blank.
