Thank you for the PH references. I’ll narrow down my list this week of where I want to hunt most . Then move towards a budget for that area. My heart leads me to a traditional tracking buffalo hunt, I’m narrowing the field a bit. I hope to have a budget in place by next month. My 458 Lott goes...

A giant thank you to all you gentlemen, for your gracious advice , and opinions. I truly am gratified by your willingness to help. My heart is looking for a traditional free range buffalo hunt. My quandary is simply if want to track across the open tangles, or chase swamp herds in open areas...

One cartridge to hunt dangerous game for the rest of your life and it can't be a 375, what are you going with?

I would look at 416, if I could only have one. I think 416 Remington mag has many good qualities. No I don’t own it, but my 458 Lott is limited in it range . A 416 could give you both range and punch.

Love that big bossed bull, beautiful by any standard. Yes I’m looking for free range hunt, and a good bull for a first buffalo. My thought is go all out for my first buffalo hunt. Then concentrate on other species on my next hunt, with buffalo as a second tag, my buffalo madness has been brewing...

Thank you for a good reference. I’m studying the best areas . Reading books to get a good idea of what’s possible. I want my first buffalo to be my best, if my investments blossom I’ll be looking at elephant as my second DG, but leopard is on my list too. My heart has been in Africa a long time...

Can Someone Help Me Judge The Size Of This Croc

I was guessing about 10 to 12, based solely on tail in relation to body. Really big crocs have bigger bodies , so I could be off by a little

    Starting from scratch

My plan to hunt buffalo is coming to fruition . I want to ask the hunters here, who have made multiple safaris . My first question is my search for a PH. I want to find a PH that I can trust, and who I can hunt future game on my wish list. Would it be best to attend the SCI, Dallas convention ...

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

I am curious how anyone feels the 458 Lott has less felt recoil than the 458 WM? Science shows the Lott to have more ft lbs of recoil. Is it possible to tame recoil enough in a Lott, to be a felt 458 WM? With all the loading advice , I concur in my shooting life, heavier bullets , give more...

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

I want to add , I found a B&C stock for the CZ 550 action on their website. It has aluminum frame imbedded as I mentioned in the Savage stock before. It comes in various colors and is exactly what I want for the 550 I have. I’ll keep everyone posted on felt recoil. I may just get a buddy to help...

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

I have to admit this is a lively conversation. I would still add a piece to the puzzle . That 300 Weatherby I bought was a bargain deal years ago and is a vanguard. I thought the recoil would be horrible because the thing is light for caliber. It shoots at an 06 level of recoil, as I said...

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

I will not argue the premise of composite stock being lighter , and my beliefs they transmit “more” recoil than wood. But, my 300 Weatherby mag shots under 1MOA, with a composite stock, and by my opinion shoots softer than a 06. Only a high grade composite stock should be applied to DG rifles...

    .416 Rigby & .458 Lott - Equal Recoil?

I have a CZ 550 in 458 Lott, and it has a nasty punch to it. I have a 375 Win 70, that shoots like a dream. I was considering buying a Rigby 416, but the hope of a “ push” recoil impulse maybe absent in the Rigby similar to the Lott. Your comparison in stock materials is interesting, I wonder if...
