I’ve just been through this and settled on the venerable 30-06 for all of the reasons above and ammo availability. After having my ammo go missing on my last trip to Africa, it was a consideration.

I’ve used them in my 30-06. Think it’s the same projectile. Crazy cheap. Loaded rounds for less than the price of the projectile. Mine have all passed through on fallow. Closer range should be fine but I expect if you stretch it out then expansion might become an issue

For the Aussies here, what rings are you running on your Highland Stalker? Hexalock are pretty high and possibly set the scope too far forward Recknagel mixed reviews EAW seem to be the pick but $$$

What do you want to use it for? I have both and use the Lott more. As you say, if you’re shooting light skinned animals you’d reach for the .30 cal. If you’re hunting thick skinned game then you want the Lott. Where the 375 shines is if you want one gun for both but that’s a compromise.

There’s always a better caliber but I can’t imagine being unhappy with the 30-06 to hunt the world. The only competition in my mind was the 300WM but most of my hunting is medium sized deer so the extra noise and recoil just isn’t necessary. Having had my ammo lost on a recent safari, ammo...

There is a big price difference in the rifles but other factors to consider. HS stalker is very nice and can be had off the shelf. Custom would probably come in cheaper and could use higher grade wood Etc but likely long wait time. Leaning towards the HS..
