How far do you go in the backcountry?

The bears have definitely getting a little more playful over the years.

How far do you go in the backcountry?

There are some good bulls in that country! Back about 2006 I was guiding for an outfit up by Hawks Rest. On the third hunt of the year we had the perfect storm… Literally. We killed 10 bulls in two days. The smallest green scored 353 and the biggest 396. Plus we killed the biggest moose taken...

How far do you go in the backcountry?

My buddy took this satellite bull. We got onto a good herd bull that would have touched 360, but we couldn’t get him to come out of the dark timber. By the time we packed this bull to the trailhead we ran out of time to make another run at him.

You were only about 6 miles from were I was last fall. I was in the drainage straight west on the Teton Wilderness side.

I usually hunt horseback into the Teton Wilderness. I go anywhere from 12 to 30 miles in. Last fall I hunted 18 miles in.

    Wyoming style chariot racing

It’s typically in the winter months. They usually have the championships in March over in Star Valley. I don’t know how organized it is. Lots of beer lots of fun. It usually draws 4 or 500 people. Mostly something to do at the end of a long winter.

I could have bought another rifle , but this instead.

Wyoming is a terrible place! I wouldn’t recommend stopping here. I-80 is definitely our most scenic route no reason to deviate from that.

    9.3x62

It was not a bad one for a late season goat.

What gun do you bitterly regret selling?

I had Dennis Erardt build and stock an early single square bridge magnum Mauser Obendorf in .416 Rigby to me in the early 2000’s. I had a young family and needed money so it went. I found out later that one of our fellow forum members is now the current custodian. Looking back I should have just...

    Help Please...9.3x62 Makes No Sense

I use 60.2 grains of Big Game with slight compression. I’m not sure what it chronographs, but it is what my rifle likes for accuracy.
