I like the .375. I also like .416 Rigby. I’ve had Buffalo die with one shot with .375 and Buffalo not even flinch with a .416. Depends on the Buffalo and shot placement. But bigger is generally better if the shooter can shoot. Not much of an argument there.
I reread this post. I once had a 7 mm rem mag- not a big gun by any standards - wood stock so heavy enough - that kicked harder than anything I have ever shot, including 3.5 12 gauge and big bore rifles. Instant headache. I got rid of it after 1 session at the range. Just brainstorming...
If it’s hitting you that hard it’s either the gun fit or technique. I can shoot my .416 Rigby over and over. No headache, no sore shoulder, nothing. I weigh 175 lbs.
I’m a fan of two sticks/bipod for dangerous game. Quicker to get on and off them. If you are hunting South Africa with longer shots a tripod will be more stable.
Yep. Crazy. As mentioned below, I have hunted this same area with the PH involved. Anyone who has DG hunting experience should know this can and does happen - fortunately rarely - with experienced PHs and hunters. We should all pay our respects and keep speculation and non-relevant opinions...
Mini is a PH. Lives in Tanzania and hunts Uganda and Tanzania. I hunted with Mini is this same area in Uganda last Feb. He is an excellent PH. Prayers for all involved.
