Great Hunting Opportunity For Very Good Trophy Elephant, Buffalo &/Or Leopard In Park Area

Got "cancelled" by outfitter on an elephant hunt this year outside Phalaborwa. Was set on going, so I am interested. Was literally packed and ready to go, then "sorry, whole area is shut down". Shame. Feel free to send me a PM on this hunt. Wasn't aware of big elephant in Namibia. I wasn't...

Elephant Hunting Permit Issues South Africa

Well... Not looking good. I leave today for ZA and I have been told that Phalaborwa area is completely shut down to hunting. The story I was told is that there are no permits for the areas around the mine, just up river from the damn. Shame, because there were big buffs, plenty of elephant...

Elephant Hunting Permit Issues South Africa

Appreciate all the replies. I was fairly familiar with the process that Joes laid out. Poaching and environmental conditions may render a difference between the estimated quota and the final one rendered from aerial surveys and such. I get that. I also understand that the government might hold...

You actually have one brand I would stand behind. Talley is super tough and relatively well priced as well. Appreciate your comment on the tore wrench... I just always though, "how fast could I wrench them off if needed?" Answer: pretty damn fast. Take care,

    Best bullet for Cape Buffalo

Agreement with the monumental = lighter bullet for the application argument... Indeed, all might light guns (for up to elk) fire Barnes TTSX bullets that are lighter (i.e. 165 instead of 180 ect..) as I can crank up the speed and the bullet's construction can easily withstand the impact...

Elephant Hunting Permit Issues South Africa

Guys, Both useful information that I really appreciate. Yes, the bull was a good old bull. Right at 45/51. Had to return in December as permits were issued late that year. It was a very difficult hunt, but ended well. I can't blame the outfitter or the PH that time. They both did what they had...

Just out of curiosity, how many people know of someone with a premium scope in good quality mounts that failed or was irreparably damaged while on safari? I can totally see how it might happen getting into and out of vehicles and taking a spill, but I can't remember ever having a good quality...

Elephant Hunting Permit Issues South Africa

Gents, Leaving soon for another elephant in South Arica. Area is just outside Phalaborwa between the Salati and Oliphant River, bordering the Kruger. Issues is now as has always been the permit arriving on time. I have a backup buffalo tag, but I often feel that I don't get the whole story from...

Nope, but you can shoot, so see if they can regulate the leaves for a little further... I.e. 50 and 150. Then buffalo AND kudu are in trouble...

To sling or not to sling, that is the question...

A sling is an encumbrance on a DG rifle. Too many thorny vines and branches to grab at your barrel only to "slingshot" off the barrel into your face. I like to be able to "snake" my gun through brush silently when we have to creep through a tight spot and a sling makes it inconvenient or...

You would only drop 1.2 inches or so at 100 if you zeroed at 50. So why? NECG or New Egland Custom Gunsight makes the best sights. I very much applaud you shooting in Africa with iron sights. It increases the challenge and forces you to stalk closer rather then blast at distance. The .375...

    Best bullet for Cape Buffalo

Sorry wasn't clear to some. Barnes are solid copper which is why I SWITCHED to North Fork ..

    Best bullet for Cape Buffalo

Barnes TSX are absolutely fantastic bullets, but I switched to North Fork for one big reason... They are solid copper alloy. Copper is less dense than lead, thus the same grain-age bullet is significantly longer. This presents an issue when cases like the .458 Lott are already running...

    458 Lott Loads

Final note: If you decide to try some 450gr NF, look for some data with Varget as stated above. No good for the 500gr, but once you get less diameter or a little lighter, that powder shines. As states above, it's also in the Extreme line of powders. Still tough to find. If you get in a total...

    458 Lott Loads

I actually agree with Phoenix Phil. If Buffalo is the biggest of the big five on your next safari, then you could definitely look at the 450gr soft or CPS from North Fork. As he stated, you can't practically drive them fast enough for them to fail. You will then get penetration "a-plenty"...
