    Caliber 30-30 use in Africa???

I’ll be headed to RSA in a little over a month for my first hunt in Africa. I’m seriously considering taking my Winchester Model 1895 in 30-06. I have a Williams receiver mounted peep sight with a front Globe sight made by Lee Shaver. With my eyes, it’s superbly accurate to 200yds. Roosevelt...

Is swift A-Frame going way of the dinosaur?

I ordered 4 boxes (50ct) of 30 cal A-Frames this morning. Might fit a little loose in your 375☝️

First Safari - I’ll hunt plains game - What caliber?

I have been bouncing around between my absolute favorite gun (Ruger Mod 77 .308) and one of my 30-06s. Like girlfriends from many years ago: There are many you REALLY like to date, but your affection always returns to the one you’d like to marry Fortunately, being retired I have a lot of time to...

Why did you buy a 6.5 Creedmoore?

Bingo Alistair. When you really boil it down, a lot of the new "upstart" cartridges (not all) are doing essentially the same thing some of the older "lovable" cartridges are doing but with an "economy of force" or with "more efficiency", if you will.

Why did you buy a 6.5 Creedmoore?

The 25-06 vs the 6.5 CM. Interesting. Interesting enough that I did a ballistic comparison. I just reviewed the Nosler "published" load data and bounced that information off my ballistic calculator. Of course, we know that, as handloaders, can push the bullets faster than published data, but...

    The 308, 30-06, 7x57 Conundrum

Thanks MDWEST - good info on what your rifles are doing. I have a Rem 660 with a 20" brl (308) that I've had since high school. I'm NW of you up on the Red River...so the hogs we kill are probably cousins :)

    The 308, 30-06, 7x57 Conundrum

I agree that, simply put, all of these cartridges will be adequate for African plains game and the same for NA, except possibly for the Big Bears. I don't think there is any real debate about that. I also understand that most - if not all - hunters have their favorite cartridge when it comes...

    The 308, 30-06, 7x57 Conundrum

I love the treads regarding calibers/cartridges for Africa...and elsewhere. I've read the other Title in this Forum (First Safari - I’ll hunt plains game - What caliber?) extensively and there is a great deal of good information. I reload a great deal and like to shoot a lot. I have my pet...

    Question About Boots

I've got several pairs of both. The Courtneys are more rigid and heavier; the JGs are immediately broken in for me, more flexible and quieter...unless I step where I shouldn't. :) L-R: 6 month old ARs that I wear for church or nice outings; 2 month old AR Barefoots (these are my favorites and I...

    What did you reload today?

I've got a new Ruger Hawkeye Hunter 30-06 and need to break it in :) I'm deflowering some virgin brass with H-4350 and 150 gr Hornady Interlocks at medium-high velocity. I'll shoot about 50 over the next few days, then use the once-fired brass and work up some more preferred hunting loads...

    2 Gun Combo

A couple of days ago, on YouTube, I watched a Hornady podcast specifically regarding the development of the 6.5CM: On this podcast the 3 guys that most responsible for developing the cartridge discuss its evolution from an idea to its finished form. It was very informative and interesting...

    African Huntin Boots

I have 3 pairs of Jim Green African Ranger boots and although I really like Courtney boots, I find the JGs far more comfortable, lighter, and quieter. I do wear a good arch supporting insoles in all my shoes and this is a MUST for me. Nothing matches the durability and toughness of the...

Why did you buy a 6.5 Creedmoore?

I thought I'd do a quick, unscientific, analysis of the thread; might not be perfect, but it is within MOA: Interestingly, very few responders actually answered what the OP asked (ME INCLUDED). Replies (some were responders making more than one reply) 92 How many responders own one and like...

Why did you buy a 6.5 Creedmoore?

I’m always amazed at the visceral hatred some have for the 6.5CM. I’m ambivalent regarding this cartridge; it is a cartridge great for some areas and lacking in other areas…just like 99% of all cartridges. Personally, I’m happy with mine just like I am happy with my 308s, 243, 222, 45-70, 30-06...
