@Muskox, I thought Hartmann & Weiss and Dorleac and Dorleac used older actions. Hartmann & Weiss has reportedly manufactured them, but their website is down. On the Dorleac and Dorleac webpage they indicate they use heeren actions "originally made by Nagel and Menz, Stefan Heym or Outschar..." I...
I used a 416 Rigby for my first and only Cape Buffalo to date. If I had unlimited funds and was able to build / find one, I might take a 404 Jeffery, but I would be very happy to take the 416 again.
@Phil Giordano Yes!
I went down a rabbit hole theoretically building a 7x66 Vom Hofe SE, but it just didn't seem anywhere near realistic. But what a cartridge, super fast, accurate, a killer name and connected to 300 H&H via it's predecessor the 7x73.
Nostalgia yes, but performance first. Using a 300 H&H for plains game in Africa ticked both boxes.
300 H&H is not dead, but it is on life support.
Just look at those beauties, Norma brass stuffed with Vihtavuori powder and Northfork semi spitzers.
@RLD, welcome to AH. There's lots of good info and good guys here. Which coast are you closer to?
You should consider taking your own firearms to Africa, it's not that hard, you just need good info and you will always have that experience to remember when you look at those rifles.
Cheers
Ya, that first piece of lumber is the choice I would make... from that selection. It's going to make your Oberndorf look amazing! I can't wait to see it!
Now if everyone wants to see another piece of wood that is going on the brother Oberndorf, they should pop over to 'Oberndorf Goodness' :giggle:
