The Oldest Hunting Technique – Outrunning The Prey

A PH I hunted with in Botswana was present when 3 San ran down two kudu on back to back days. I think that was the Attenborough video posted above. They did it once but the kudu was down when they got the video there. They wanted to do it again to show the spearing. So they did it yet again...

Cape Buffalo Hunt-Bring or Rent a rifle?

When I bowhunted I took a bow case with that stuff. But I’ve done 2 trips to Botswana after elephant and 2 multi week international trips with my wife with nothing but an 1800 cubic inch backpack which I carried on. It’s so much easier than checking stuff and worrying about whether it made it...

Cape Buffalo Hunt-Bring or Rent a rifle?

Rent one. Show up to camp with only a backpack and they’ll love you  I have taken a bow twice. I’ve rented a rifle twice. And I’m renting next year for Cape buffalo. I do enjoy the hassle free travel of no checked bags and no rifle or bow.

    Classic Airplanes

Clarence “Bud” Anderson has a great book about being a P51 triple ace. “To Fly and Fight”. It’s available on kindle

    Classic Airplanes

You could make a pretty good argument (and some have) that the P51 was vital in winning the air war in Europe, and therefore vital in winning the overall war in Europe. Not much more classic than that

What RMR dot size for double rifle?

I too voted 1 MOA. I have a 1 MOA on a 45-70 bear defense rifle and it is easy for me to pick up and pick up quick. I have it mounted farther back on the receiver and I’ve “practiced” picking it up with an UNLOADED rifle at a charging black lab :) I like it. Besides using a defense gun, I...

In search of a used double for first hunt in Zimbabwe

I will give you my personal experience, which may be a cautionary tale. . . I too LONGED for a double rifle. The nostalgia, the history, the coolness, everything. I, however, am not a wealthy man. I also LONGED to hunt an elephant with that double. Again, though, the chances of me elephant...

Major Bank? Regional Bank? Local Bank? Credit Union?

I always use my local small town bank. But my experience maybe shouldn’t count. I was on their board for 8 years before I took a job that required me not to have those associations. So they knew me pretty well :). It’s a small bank, but worked great for wire transfers, ordering foreign...

Double rifle shooting tips for beginners?

I’ve never heard that about loading with the weak hand. I don’t think I can agree with that. Much more dexterous with my strong hand. Equaling quicker reload. I hold the double with my weak hand and reload with my dominant hand
