Been doing this for years. I buy factory overruns from Midway or Raven Rocks or direct from factory at Sierra. Sometimes they are a 1/3 of the cost of hunting bullets.
I had one in 2.5 - 8X on a M70 in .270 Winchester back in the 80's. I loved the fine tapered crosshairs on the scope. As a young hunter I was very hard on my rifle back then hunting a lot in the mountains and I can say that I don't ever remember that scope losing zero one time. Brings back some...
It will mimic my 270 winchester with 120 grain Barnes TTSX bullets. 48 grains of Ramshot Big Game with a 120 grain TTSX gets me ~ 3100 fps, in my Tikka its a 5 shot, 1 moa to 300 yards. outside of dangerous game there isn't anything this wont kill. Mild recoil, plentiful factory ammo, easily...
I must be the anomaly on here - LOL I've had great success using the Barnes TSX in my Weatherby 7mm-08. I reload so I'm using a 120 grain TSX going 3095 FPS. To date 30+ Pennsylvania whitetails (150 # avg) one shot kills and complete pass throughs. The furthest one ran was 50 yards. My wife...
I have worn them in temps from the mid 40's Farenheit to low 80's and been very comfortable. They breathe well when you are walking. I wouldn't wear them sitting on stand all day when its 40 without a merino wool underlayer though.

I think the "problem" we have today is finding a bullet that doesn't work well for whatever you are hunting. I remeber back in the late 70's hunting with my dad, he shot a whitetail doe on the shoulder with his 30-06 knocked it down she got up and started running, shot again but this time she...
