Strange as it may seem I use the 6 O'clock hols for open sights as per the left hand picture. However with a peep sight I hold on point of impact, similar to the express sight hold shown.
I put this together to help a fellow who had difficulty getting his dangerous game rifle sighted. Most makers regulate express sights to shoot as illustrated in the right sketch, that is with the bead covering the point of aim. Aiming at 6 o'clock with express sights is generally a sure recipe for shooting too low...
Your comment is a perfect illustration of the fact that different people use iron sights differently. This is not an issue per se, but it certainly explains why some folks have problems with express sights if they do not know what the sight picture is supposed to be.
