Thanks, friend. This was on a pretty big place just outside of Windhoek. I was a tag-along with two old friends who were trying to bag some antelope they hadn't hunted before.
It was a perfect situation. We had the rifle in the truck for something fun. We spotted this pig from far off, feeding on an opposite hillside. John looks at me and says, "pull that old girl out of the case and let's go". Wind was perfect and just enough brush to allow us to get close. We stalked in and let him feed right towards us. I dropped him at about 30 yards. Very satisfying
There is a very long story about this rifle I won't get into but we only had two rounds of ammo. We had to get those from a local cartridge collector in Windhoek. One was a Kynoch and one was an RWS. He said, "if your gonna shoot it, I would trust the Kynoch first"
Sure enough, the Kynoch went off without a hitch, but the shot was in the neck and the pig was squirming. I tried to finish him, but the RWS never went off. "Shoot it with your .30-06 !!" That rifle was back at the truck. A small rodeo ensued with me and the tracker grabbing the back legs while John finished it with hunting knife.
In the hands of thousands and thousands of hunters this cartridges worked flawless for its intended purposes..... but not in the hands of Taylor..... HWL Certainly for the intended purpose, meant heavy game hunting, and that with the original bullet, but the majority of those who used such...
