9.3X62 for Cape Buffalo?

Thanks Jerome, I couldn't remember where or how that discussion ended. I think we mentioned people hunting with the .270 Win...either way as long as the hunter can make an ethical kill.

SAKO CLASSIC

The Sako Classic is an Americanized European design with a straight comb and a cheekpiece with a shadow line. The stock has a small amount of cast off as well as cant, which allows the shooter to get behind the scope more easily. ok, yeah it was about a 6 or 7 month wait for for the black bear in 9.3x62 to be sent to the dealer in the uk....and thanks for the info Bob, had a look on their website after .

I love this caliber but if hunting buffalo I would prefer the usual standard minimum of a .375 H&H. Any number of rounds will kill a buffalo, a 30/06 or .270 will too, but who wants to hunt buff with them? If-when I hunt buffalo again I will likely take my .404 Jeff CZ, if I still have it. I tend to rotate my stock rather frequently usually to finance another safari. Like I am right now.

it is not my preferred caliber for buffalo , I have a 416 rigby for that.

but I like the caliber for other PG in RSA

It's rare to see a Sako rifle in the USA compared to all the other options we have and I do mean rare. Finding parts, very hard, but there are always sources somewhere.

I dont know if I am smarter than that or not?! I have sold a lot of good guns over the years, no doubt. I am resisting for the moment the idea of selling the .404, its just too nice a rifle. But if I do...I will rattle your cage.

Wow 4100 ft/lbs of energy, that would mean you are pushing a 286 grain projectile at a minimum of 2550 fps. Would really like to know your load data since the maximum I could ever squeeze out of this cartridge was about 2400 fps for about 3659 ft/lbs before the brass started showing signs of excessive pressure. Aside from the obvious, not something that would be desirable in a hot climate.

I am not saying that this cartridge will not kill a buff, because it will. Hell, here in Australian there is more water buff shot with the 30-06 then with anything else. And to be honest I would be comfortable using a 338 Win Mag with 300gn bullets if it was legal.
